Sometimes I scare myself (in a mostly good way)...

One of my co-workers was having problems with a file on his computer, and I took a look at it to see if I could fix it. I didn't understand why he was having this problem, so I jokingly suggested something to fix it. He laughed, but I went ahead and tried my suggestion and it worked! I still have no idea why, but who cares, right? Do you ever make joking suggestions about how to fix a problem (computer related or otherwise) and then are shocked when it actually works? This isn't the first time I've done this... and I think I am adding "unofficial computer person" onto my list of titles at work... :)

Yes. It happened to me a few times. My solution when something (not software related, of course!) happens is to turn off the computer and shake the computer box a little. Hahahaha! I swear, it works at times!! If by any chance it'd a laptop, I think the only reasonable way to do it is to shake it all, and a little harder, as laptops are made to be moved. (Ok, don't follow my advices, please! :D)

If I encounter a situation that I am not familiar with, I usually try applying logic instead of computer knowledge. This approach can often work after a little bit of trial and error. If the computer is determined to be a pain I often resort to the old adage of "If a fisrt you do not succeed, CHEAT".

I've determined that logic doesn't always work with computers... but that is a good idea, in theory. :)

My internet was majorly screwed up one night - couldn't get any type of connection. The usual threats weren't working (work or I will reformat your hard drive usually does it) so I said I was just going to forget about it for the night and go watch tv. Low and behold, I was doing a soft reset instead of powering down and turning it back on. That seemed to fix what ever way wrong with it lol. Who knew I could give myself advice then not act on it (leaving the computer alone) and things work out for the best.

I hoped you kept the fact that you didn't really know what you were doing to yourself...you'll end up looking like a total genius....LOL. Any time I make those kinds of suggestions it seems to end up badly. I would have probably tried to fix it and ended up wiping his entire hard drive.

Well, the thing about this co-worker is that even when I tell him I have no idea, he's still appreciative as long as I get it taken care of. So I'm still a total genius. :)

I've done it a couple of times. I dunno how or why. It is kind of scary sometimes.
