This poem I wrote for my son who recovered from being a drug addict. He went throught treatment, now is married and has a beautiful little girl. He also has gotten a degree from college! I hope this poem will give some strenght and courage to come out of the shadows of addiction, from being abused, or any other Shadows Do not stand in front of me, And shield me from the light. For I have been in the shadows too long. Hidden by the darkness of another world I have faced the loneliness, With a brave, yet broken heart. While seeking the light. That unknown place where the rest of the world Would accept me with my flaws and imperfections. And find the love within me, That has been waiting to be shared. Fill me with the joys that have not blessed my life. Entwine your finger in mine, And walk next to me, close to my heart. Heal me with your gift of love And let the brightness of the light shine over us, While the shadows fall behind. Jill Holmes

That really shows your acceptance and love to your recovered son. I hope others can reach that level of understanding when it comes to their afflicted love ones.
