I've been a pack-rat for years and have finally been able to admit it recently. I have kept items simply because I believe I will need/use them at a later date; I have thrown things out before and had to re-purchase, so I decided to keep certain items, believing I was being frugal, (saving money) just in case.
The problem was that I'd have them for years, never having a need for them again but still could not make myself throw them out. I still have a room with boxes of items I haven't used in, who knows how long...same with clothes I no longer fit into; thinking I'll lose enough weight. Right..!
To tell you the truth, I believe it could be considered an disease of sorts. LOL

I think you are right in a way about it being a disease. But you are also right about when you throw it away it seems like the next week you suddenly need it and have to go repurchase the same item. My daughter in law used to say she was going to come over and pitch a few things.....then one night we were working on a project and needed something and I walked into the next room and brought it back. She said....that's why you keep everything! She hasn't offered to clean out the work room since! LOL
