Mideastern food

The only Mideastern food I know of is Shawarma, a flat bread wrapped with sliced beef, lettuce and tomatoes. Any Mideastern food favorites you might recommend, recipes are welcomed. Please also explain the uncommon terms used which I might not be familiar with. Thanks.
