Lost and alone can be today but every day is a new day and presents us with new directions, you are probably in a rest time before another door opens and a new life begins, everyone has these down times at most do, I think when you have these down times when you are young helps you cope in your future more independently, some people always have someone and later on when they are a fair bit older they find it harder to cope with when alone time comes and think about it most people have alone times sooner or later....

Thank you for your concern. Apparently I lost some time in the last few days. I don't remember writing this, but then agian, I don't remember a lot of things that happened since friday or saturday (still trying to figure out which day).
Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out... it happens once inawhile, but usually not this much time.

Down time has been 5 years now. I know in my distant future I will be ok, but I'm still not sure what Ok will be.

Whoa Para, what is up? Come on spill the beans! Why the question of desperation? Of course it really matters...everything does.

Hello ParaTed,
It sounds like you may have stumbled into some of life's more difficult challenges, my friend. Honestly, you have never struck me as one who avoids ever tackling challenges 'head on'. So, I gather this must be quite a low point. Understandable, as we all periodically find ourselves in such states.
The good news is that as always, this too shall pass.
Might I suggest that you sit down, with pen & paper, and begin to formulate a list of everything that you still wish to accomplish with your life.
Where have you always wanted to visit, or travel to?
What artist would you most like to record a song written by you?
What wild & crazy thing have you always wanted to do?
What one thing have you always wanted to do with your children, that you have not yet done?
You get the point. The answer to your question is Yes, there is much that matters in The world, and Your world. Your children matter, your music matters, your thoughts and ideas matter.
This battle with your own perspective is one you can definitely win! You just need to wrap your head around all the things that mattered to you
20yrs ago, 10yrs ago, 1yr ago, and last month. It's all about perspective, my friend!
Oh, and a nice walk through a park, or visit to a lake can do wonders. This weekend, believe it or not, our dogs at my car. Not kidding! The ate the whole grill, and the front left fender. They were trying to get at some critter that was hiding under my hood. This will be a very expensive repair. And, I was out of my mind when I saw the damage they did. So, to clear my head, I got in the car and took a leisurely drive. I stumbled upon an amazing pastoral image that completely re-set my fury. A gorgeous sunset highlighting the mountains, and off in a field were two horses, leisurely enjoying themselves as they grazed in the field. It was so simple, and beautiful that it really put my perspective back on track.
Might I also suggest that you arrange to chat with a pro? Very often, an unbiased trained ear can be amazingly helpful. The V.A. might be a good, low-cost option for you. Or a Veterans support group.
As we go ... "Onward through the fog." Eventually the fog always lifts. We just need to be patient and persistent as we feel our way through the thick and soupy mess.
Sending lots of warm & fuzzies your way!

Sounds like a blues tune to me. Are you playing your guitar?
Music is your balm.

Yes, it is the blues, it is just a phase (5 years in the making, but still just a phase) and yes, thank you, music is my balm.

You've already had some excellent answers:
-if you're religious, then look to your god or faith for support.
-talk to some people in really down and out situations in order to feel grateful for what you do have.
-and try to see the positive in all situations, even though it may be hard.
May I ask what has happened for you to feel this way?

What's happened? Well, I used to be a paratrooper, a radio NCO, an Artillery Section Chief, a paramedic, did disaster recovery work and training in Search and Rescue.
I've also trained Combat Lifesavers and Army National Guard Medics.
I worked as a paramedic in the Grand Tetons, Atlanta GA, and Milwaukee, WI.
Now where am I? I'm a burntout old PTSD strung out guy who is told to let go of the past and look to the future... but when you pass out for no apparent reason once in awhile, live with a constant dizziness, have a limited short term memory and now watchign my marriage die...
Yeah, life is great!
