i was resting when i heard a sudden crash smash pling plang pliang sound.
my candle tea-light holder had fallen off a shelf and smashed to smithereens! okay, so not to a million pieces, but some 10 largeish pieces and some 15-20 tiny pieces. it was a souvenir that i really liked.
so as i swept the mess to one side, and tried not to cut myself on the frosted glass pieces, i wondered what to do. staring mournfully at the tealight holder that once was, i wondered whether it was worth the effort to painstakingly glue the bits together again. the large pieces looked glueable, but the tiny ones .... i think if there are too many gaps after i glue the big ones together i might give up. should i risk cutting myself in the process?
have you pieced together a broken object before? would you do it if you were in my situation?
one positive thing i can think about is that the broken effect with gaps might contribute to the light making interesting shadows, but that's just the eternal optimist in me speaking. sigh.

well, you can definitely give it a try.
Once you are done gluing the pieces together, remember to give it a good coating of lacquer to add an additional layer to hold the whole glass piece together.
The lacquer will act like an invisible netting to seal the gaps that could not be reached by the glue during the piecing together process. Touch the surface after that. Use some sand paper to smoothen out any rough edges and mabbe add another layer of lacquer if need be.
After that, take a nice picture and show to ahgong lah ;)

LOL - Ok old personal joke here I'll share with the world. Years and years ago I had a statue of a horse - it had been a wedding gift from my first marriage. Every time I got angry about something, anything, I would throw the statue (which I really did like). When I calmed down I would proceed to glue it back together. There actually came a time when I'm sure there was more glue on the statue than plaster :(

I have to say, so far you seem to be taking this exceptionally well!
I have a house full of souvenirs and various nicknacks, and so I've had multiple gluing experiences.
Normally I only risk it if the pieces are all relatively large and none are missing,
although I have been known to try to repair even the most written-off of my favourite items.
I think if you could do the delicate procedure with some protective gloves on, I'd go for it.
You'll always regret it if you just throw it away, but you might be able to fix it or make something... 'unique' out of the remains.
=]
Keep up that optimism, definitely.
