Clicks exchange in PTC sites

Guys i do not understand the concept of click exchange and gaining credits in the ptc sites. I am a member of few ptc sites and apart from ptc there is this click exchange. when i do it i do not get any money but i get credits. And there is no credit to cash converter there. So what is the credits all about? i really dont understand. Can someone please explain to me?
