Dogfighting vs hunting

Today on the Today show, a clip was shown of Knicks guard Stefan Marbury claiming more or less that dogfighting, like hunting, was just another sport. My immediate reaction to this was that I have never seen, or heard of, anyone making the deer fight each other, or choking a deer to death, and filming it. Additionally, I will bet one hundred dollars of my own money that Michael Vick, and everyone else involved in this case, at least, did not actually eat any of the dogs, or have them stuffed as trophies. I am not saying I condone hunting, or stuffed trophies, but at least the hunters get some use out of the animals they kill. And the kill is intended to be swift, clean, and as painless as possible. How anyone could compare the two is beyond me. I would never shoot a deer myself, but I know plenty of people who have for food, and I do not steer clear of them. But if I knew someone who was torturing dogs by forcing them to fight each other to the death -a process which usually wounds both dogs so badly, even the "winner" dies soon after- I don't think I could even talk to them anymore. What do you all think? Are they comparable? And before you post, please remember that this is not a Vick bashing thread, nor is it an animal cruelty thread. I am just asking if the two can be compared, or if Mr. Marbury took one two many rebounds to the head.

Sounds like Stefan Marbury is quite the ignorant man.

I think in some ways they are comparable. A person is still killing an animal and hunting is not always meant for food purposes, some people do it for fun. I know Chiken-fighting has been going on for some years now, and PETA hasn't said anything about that...are chickens not worth it? Honestly, I'm don't condone the dog fights, chicken fights or whatever other crazy stuff goes on out there, but I do think Vick should be allowed to play. Kobe Bryant was accused of rape and he was on the court the very next day I think.

First off, a clarification on chicken fighting; it is currently only legal in Louisiana, (in the States, anyway)and there is already a law passed that will outlaw it next year. In terms of the comparability, I still think that hunting is different, mainly due to the absence of torture. For fun or for food, a clean kill is important in hunting. Dogfighting, on the other hand, is all about how messy it can get.

Vick didnt torture or kill anyone either according to what he said, and no one knew the girl lied the day after it happened in the Kobe situation, For we knew she was a innocent rape victim at that point. Just lke no one knows if Vick is telling the truth or not. Innocent until proven guilty, and thats why he should be playing. Ray Lewis was on trial for murder as well...he played too.

I think they are the same you are killing an innocent animal just for fun. They get some sick pleasure out of it. I have worked with people who does it, and hearing them talk about it just utterly disgusted. I agree with Marbury 100 percent.

I do think deer hunting is similar only in the aspect that you're killing an innocent animal for no reason. I'm not talking about the people that hunt and eat it, but it is a sport because these people are not killing it and eating it to survive. These people don't live in the woods, they come in their trucks and hunt for these animals just to shoot them. I think that is just as bad.
