A friends 7 year old was diagnosed with Crohn's disease...after being quite ill for several months. My ex appendix ruptured..and he survived due to a surgeon who fixed him up. While both of these are serious, the odds of surviving and doing fine are pretty high, especially for a 20 year old. Good luck to your nephew.

Hi punlonnjack, This sort of thing is always of great concern to families. The fact that he is so young and it happened so suddenly only adds to the worry. Medical science can do so much today that he will very likely be fine. Blessings.
