Dental Insurance Help!! How do I choose?

I need dental insureance, well, my boyfriend needs dental insurance. Three of him back molars are nearly completely corroded by cavities. He says he has never seen a dentist and I believe him. So, I was looking up dental insurance online and I got so confused!! What are good things to look for? What is a good rate? What is a Dental HMO? Are they good to have or should I avoid them? What about discount cards? Use them or stay away from them? If anyone has any suggestions or help that would be greatly appreciated!!!
