Why so many interpretations?

The Bible as we know it, has probably been around for about 1600 years. For the next 1000 or so years, it retained its Latin text, thus making it unavailable to the common people. Indeed, it was considered that only the church could interpret it. In the sixteenth century, following the protestant reformation, the Bible was finally accessible to ordinary people. Even then, since most people were illiterate, they only heard it read in churches, and still depended on the Clergy to interpret it. Even one hundred years ago, many people believed that children who died unbaptised went to hell. Some churches refused to bury the infant in its cemetery. Many churches taught that when a person died, they knew nothing more until Christ's return. Today most people appear to believe that the soul goes directly to heaven or hell. Some churches teach infant baptism, others adult baptism, when a person requests it, still others say it is not necessary at all. Of course, I have barely touched the surface, books could, and have been written, on the subject. I find it amazing that people get such different ideas from the same book. Comments please.

All of what you said is part of the reason I can't for the life of me understand why people all over the world are willing to kill and be killed over their religious beliefs! It's all subject to interpretation and people read into it what they WANT to. I'm not saying that to offend or criticize anyone for their religion, just saying that we should all just believe what we believe and let others do the same. Annie
