Should I turn this man in to the MSPCA?

This morning I wrote about two cockatiels I got last night. What I didn't tell you was the story behind them. I read an ad from a man wanting to sell 2 cockatiels and I was looking for just that...2 cockatiels. This was over 2 weeks ago. I replied to his ad but didn't hear from him...until two days ago. He told me about the two tiels he had and that one could fly and eat on her own although she is very young and the other couldn't fly or eat on her own yet and was being hand fed. I told him I know very little about hand feeding birds and wanted to take just the one who could eat on her own but he said they had to go together because he didn't have the time to take care of them and if I didn't take them he was going to basically let the little one die. Being the kind of person I am I couldn't let that happen so I agreed to take them but told him I would need his help. Well, he brought them to me in a cat carrier. He didn't bring the formula he was feeding the poor little thing, droppers or anything I would need. Now he knew that I don't drive and don't live in an area that I could just get to a pet store to get whatever I need. He lives a good hour from my home and wouldn't go back to get what I needed. He said the baby had been fed before he brought her to me so was set until the next morning...NOT! I ran to the cvs near me thinking the formula he talked about was baby formula so I tried to feed that to her but she wouldn't take it. I had a horrible night trying to keep this poor little thing alive. I finally got a ride to a pet store this morning and got the bird formula she needed but it was too late. When I got back home she had already died. Even though I only had her less than 24 hours I am so upset about the whole thing. Thankfully the other one seems to be doing fine. She's eating, singing, getting to know me and we're "bonding". This man said he has a pair of love birds and two more tiels at home that he wants to sell in case I know anyone who would be interested. Right! I talked to some people from a cockatiel group that I belong to and they think I should turn this man in for neglect. What do you think? Would you do it?

It's sad that some ppl have so little regard for life... whether human or animal. Should you turn it in? I think so. I would. I am a huge animal lover and can't stand to see them mistreated. I guess for me babies and animals are the same in regards of being defenseless. I see them as pretty much being at the mercy of those who have them. AT PEACE WITHIN ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

That drives me nuts when I see ppl mistreating or neglecting their kids or pets. I have a big heart and have even been known to cry at a mouse in a trap before. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I feel the same way...baby human or baby animal they are all living, breathing beings and should always be taken care of to the best of our ability. If we can't then we shouldn't have them.

Well he is a very stupid guy. He knew you would need that formula, and he wouldn't..he should have brought it. Did you have to pay for both birds? I'd get your money back from him if you did. And if he has even more birds he's trying to sell he might even be scamming people! The birds he has might be sick or something. But I would turn him in, at least talk to an animal control officer and ask if there is anything that can be done before you officially press charges.

I actually called the mspca and gave them his information. They said they will check him out but I will not know what happened. I'm sure they will rehome any birds he has and is trying to sell. The price I paid for the two birds is less than I would have had to pay for one so I don't feel like I've been cheated.

I doubt anything much would come of it other than you aggravating his life a little more.

What he is doing is against the law. If he gets some aggravation in his life he obviously deserves it.

Yes, I think you should call someone to investigate this man and his treatment of birds. It would be nice if you got your money back for the young one, but that is not really the issue here. That Bas**rd should not be allowed to raise and sell any birds at all. I am really sorry you lost the baby. Breaks my heart. Hope is lucky to be alive and I know you will take good care of her. PEACE

I am so hoping that my little Hope is going to be ok. I'm taking the best care of her that I can with a lot of help from people from a yahoo group.
