Doctors won't go against doctors

I had a procedure done that ended up almost making me bleed to death but I can't do anything about it because one doctor won't go against another doctor. I was told this by a lawyer. Doesn't that really suck. It upsets me that nothing will ever be done.

The same thing happened to my dad in December. My dad is way too forgiving because he didn't want to sue. But my dad also realized the doctor who fixed him, wouldn't speak against the doctor who caused the bleeding. Right after the surgery that saved his life, he even heard the surgeon berating the other doctor. But no way in the world would he talk against him. It's like some doctor code that means well, but really hurts those who need help. I realize there are silly malpractice suits out there, but in no way could that have been considered 'minor.' One thing we can do is pay attention to legislature that comes up about medical practice. We don't even have to wait until then. Just sending an e-mail to our local representative and telling what happened can trigger a change. I'm sure it happened to thousands of families. If everyone voiced their concern, maybe a change would be paramount.

I really don't think that is 100% true. I'm sure there is a doctor out there that would stick up for you, you just have to find him. My dad is a doctor and if he had to he would go against a doctor that did something wrong, because it's the right thing to do. I'm sorry that happened to you! That's awful. I'm glad that you're alright.

Your dad is one of the good doctors. Where I live doctors really suck. I wish more doctors were like your dad.

Well the gotta stick together don't they? I'm sorry to hear about your situation.... I wouldn't automatically assume your new dr. won't do anything. Have you asked him? People win malpractice suits (or at least get something when they get settled) all the time.

I called a lawyer and he said I'd only have a case if another doctor in the same field would have the balls to stand up to him. He said most won't side with the patient because they ban together... and the patient gets hurt or someone ends up dieing because doctors don't support the patients even when they know their "fellow" doctors are wrong. Whatever happened to ...1st do no harm?
