What's your favorite bug??

I just read a discussion about cockroaches and it got me to thinking. When I was in Biology in college, we had a cage of those HUGE California hissing cockroaches. Those things were SO COOL!!! I like to hold them and let them crawls up my arms. They were freaky, though because they reallt do make a hissing noise when you first touch them. Kinda makes you jump a bit and feel uneasy. And since some of them were the size of my palm... Not the kind you'd want to find in a dark kitchen while barefoot!!!
We also had some really big millipedes. I took them home for spring break and got lots of enjoyment out of them . Just watching them crawl around with all those legs, like lace waving down their sides. They were quite beautiful.
Anyway... back to my question. My favorite is the Praying Mantis. I loved them since I was a kid because their cute little triangle heads would turn and watch me as I moved. I never liked watching them eat, but they are just neat looking and have such cute little heads!!

wow that was cool. i think out all those bugs i would have to say ladybugs. i also liked ladybugs when i was a kid and when i was a kid my cousins and i used to get an empty jar and put grass and also put all the ladybugs inside. we would always set them free accidentally because of who?.....me. i would open the lit and try to grab the ladybug but because it never flew away as i put it back inside, i would try to grab it again until it flew away. my cousins would be so mad a me and when they found other hard to find ladybugs. um....i would do the same. set them free accidentally.

I remember collecting rolly pollies in jars also, trying to find as many as I could. I'd put dirt in the jar for them and put so many of them that the poor things were probably really mad at me. But I'd let them all go cuz I'd feel bad.

You talking about lady bugs reminded me how much we liked those as kids, also. I also remember what we called lightning bugs at night. They were very cool.

I take it that's what this one is called?? But I don't see the cute triangle head with big eyes where the tiny black dots in the center follow you...

Yeah, I like the new ones. But they aren't as cute as a Praying Mantis, though!!

YUCK! Hissing cockroaches! Cool? no way! LOL. I always liked the praying mantis also...thought they were really cool looking. I also liked the walking sticks...very neat.

Espacially dad's HUGE walking stick. Those cockroaches really were neat, they were SO BIG!!! Maybe I'll drop by the school some day and borrow one to show you!!
