Using peroxide for ear aches?

Okay my son has been complaining of his ears hurting all weekend and running a fever that I can't seem to get to go down below 99.5. I have been giving him Motrin and it just doesn't seem to be helping. It started Friday night but the doctors office was closed all weekend. So I plan on taking him to the doctor this morning, but last night it was really bad. So I called my mom and she suggested putting a little bit of peroxide in his ear. She said the peroxide would kill any infection and make the pain go away. So I tried it this morning and my son screamed. Has anyone else ever heard this before? Have you tried it? Did it work? or do you have any other suggestions (beside taking him to the doctor which I already plan on doing) that will help.

I have never heard of this! Putting peroxide in the ear- I don’t think I would have tried it either-
When I was a kid= I’m pretty sure my mom used some warm oil (something like that) they stopped selling it- I’m pretty sure- but boy it took the pain right away- When you take your son- ask if they can give you a prescription for ear drops- it’s a Novocain- numbs the ear and the pain- Good to use at night- or on the weekend- until you can get into the doctor- My daughter has frequent ear aches- Not too bad anymore now that we have the drops.

Yes, I have heard of this, actually I was just telling my 21 year old daughter about this last night, because the night before she was having an ear ache and I told her to put some orajel on a Q-tip and put it in her ear. So I had asked her last night if she did that, and if it was still hurting she could use some peroxide.

Yes i have heard of it. I had problems with my ears when i was younger. The doctor told me to use peroxide to soften the wax. It never made my ears hurt. Maybe you son just screamed because his ears were hurting.
