asking for donations

i'm having a hard time with a work problem. i'm building an exhibit for a museum. it's a non-profit charitable museum so we don't have a lot of money. the exhibit is on freemasonry. they are a group who does a lot for their community and always donates to many causes. i'm writting a letter to tell them about our museum and the exhibit i'm building. we do need extra money but do i flat out ask for money to help with this educational exhibit which is about them or do i just write about when i'm doing and sit back and hope they send some money. how would you word it nicely to ask for a donation.
