Barry Manilow minus the View

Seems we have a fight on The View. Barry Manilow has decided not to appear because he did not want to be interviewed by Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Apparently they are political polar opposites. He says he will not compromise his beliefs and neither will she. I know he is a Democrat and she is a Republican. He has been on the show before with no problems. She has voiced her opinions many times on the View. Sometimes it is as if she refuses to listen to any view but hers. I really wanted to hear Barry sing the songs of the 70's. Is there a right or wrong view to this spat?

I don't blame Barry Manilow for not wanting to be on the show.

He shouldn't have accepted the invite in the first place. He knows Elisabeth is part of the show, and it is not up to him to pick and choose his interviewers. If you agree to go on a show that has several hosts, you are agreeing to sit down with all of the hosts. I think it was childish. I teach my students everyday that, in life, you will always have to deal with people you don't like. You may not like your coworkers, but you have to work together and get the job done so you learn to deal with it. It's ridiculous that an ADULT can't be around someone just because they have different views. Yeah, Elisabeth can be very obnoxious and stuck on her own beliefs, but, honestly, wasn't Rosie the SAME WAY?? I just think that Rosie's belittling attitude and "my way is right" personality was more accepted because more of The View's viewers agreed with her political standing and personal beliefs. The reason people don't like Elisabeth is because she stands for something they don't and they don't want to hear about it. But that's life. You've got to talk to people who don't agree with you. You've got to deal with people you don't like. Just because you're a "celebrity" (if you can even call him that), doesn't make you any different.

You have a good point there. On the other hand many of these shows are booked in advance, so who knows how far. I just dont really understand all the BS about it. Of course it is publicity.

I really don't care for Elisabeth. I think she's pushy and obnoxious. I agree with you that she seems to refuse to listen to anyone elses view. She strikes me as very close minded. Those kind of people can be very difficult to deal with. I like Barry Manilow. Obviously he felt strongly enough about not wanting to be interviewed by Elisabeth that's why he made the request? I'm not sure there is a right or wrong view to this spat. There obviously is a difference of opinion. Barry is a big enough star he can choose who he wants to be interviewed by though.

I meant choose who he wants to be interviewed by in the way of which tv show. If he's going to be on The View I don't think he can in all fairness say this person but not that person. The way the show is set up with 4 hosts, you shouldn't really single one out like that.

What bothers me is that he has been on that show many times and never worried about it then. I guess he really took offense to Elizabeth...

I think this is like so many other topics in that those who support Elizabeth and her "views" will say she's right and those who support Barry's views will say he's right. And for many there will be NO changing their minds because they know they're RIGHT...lol I would guess there's more to it than what meets the eye, there must have been something Elizabeth has said or done - maybe unintentionally, I'm not attacking her - that personally offended Barry Manilow because, as others have said, he's never been one to openly discuss his political opinions when interviewed. If it's true they've settled their "differences" whatever they were and he's going to appear in the near future I'm going to make sure to watch. Annie

I agree. The one thing I have noticed about Elizabeth is that she has become defensive in her views and really refuses to listen to an opinion that disagrees with hers. This may be a result of the Rosie Wars. I have my opinions, but I like to hear the other side. A good debate is fun. Refusing to listen to someone else is not. I have an ex-husband who never let anyone disagree with him. That is one of the reasons he is the ex. I supect Barry will be back and everyone will make nice.

I think you're right that Rosie might have caused her refusal to listen to others' opinions. Rosie consistently attacked her for her beliefs and she was constantly getting Rosie's opinion shoved down her throat, so she probably just feel like, now, that she doesn't even want to listen to their opinion, because then she'll have to defend hers and get attacked again. I, personally, this Rosie is a pathetic excuse for a human being. I agree with some of Elisabeth's views, and I actually agree with some of Rosie's. It's just her horrific personality that turns me off. She's just white trash. Obnoxious. *shudder*
