Yes, a funny thing DID happen while I was lying on the couch. One of my dogs pounced on my other dog, but got me instead. A lot of blood, a lacerated eye lid, and an emergency room trip later, I'm thinking I'm going to have a black eye.
What was your worst experience with a dog? Even if it was your own and you love it anyway (like in my case).

That must be a big dog. I have never had any bad experiences with dogs. Maybe when I was little...I may have received a cold stare.

Oh my! I hope your eye is feeling better now.:)
My worst experience was when I was attacked by a dog. I was in 6th grade and it absolutley scared the crap out if me. It's a long story, but luckily, I was more scared than anything. It was some kind of Rottweiler mix, so it was a big dog. My St. Bernard came over to try to help me, so I had these two huge dogs fighting over my poor terified body. My mom and dad came over and got the other dog away from me amd the owner got a tongue lashing from my dad. He was a cranky old man and he used to tell me he would shot my dog if she was ever on his property, and his dog attacked me on our property. My dad wasn't happy. I was bite by another big dog when I was young too, but it was only playing. It scared me though. It's amazing that I love and own big dogs after all that drama!

Yeah, as we get older I think we tend to forget our fear. I think I was intimidated by big dogs when I was young. Especially if it was a pit bull or a rottweiler. But now I'm more cautious about those breeds than anything. I think pit bills are adorable.
My eye is better. At least it doesn't hurt. But it does look like I got punched. I got some stares when I got groceries this afternoon. LOL

Yeah, I'm not a person that judges breeds by them having a bad reputation. I don't really think there are bad dogs, just bad owners. That goes mostly for pit bulls and rottweilers. Those are both beautiful breeds and I saw a show on Animal Planet that said Rottweilers are actually really sweet dogs, but they just have a bad rep.

Sorry to hear about your little accident, at least you can see the funny side of it. When I was about 15 I was riding my horse down a narrow path to the beach. As we rounded a corner a dog came out of the bushes and attacked me. It was jumping up and biting my boots, I couldn't turn around because of how narrow the path was and I couldn't drive my horse on he was to upset. He reared up a few times and kicked the dog twice but the dog just wouldn't stop, finally my horse reached around and grabbed the dog by the tail and picked it up. He flipped the dog in the air and slammed it into the ground then flung it back up into the air again ripping its tail off. By this time the dogs owner was there and she was screaming that my horse was killing her dog, people where coming from the houses and up from the beach and there was a lot of yelling, someone tried to grab my horse to stop him and he got trampled in the act. This whole time I was just trying to stay on because if I fell off I would have landed under my horse. Any way the dog lived but needed surgery and my horse walked away with minor injuries, I needed 15 stitches to close up my leg where I was bite by the dog. The owner of the dog tried to sue me for damages both physical and mental, she claimed she needed to be medicated after seeing the horror of the "horse attacking her dog". The saving grace for me was someone in one of the houses was video taping a party and caught the whole thing on tape right from the start showing the dog being the aggressor. The judge threw the case out but listed my horse as a dangerous animal so he couldn't go off our property any more, which was fine with him because after the attack he was afraid and would flip out over anything. It was a little sad for me because I had put so much time and energy into that horse and he was a rock solid rodeo horse that became a flaky recluse and would jump if the wind blew a branch. I could still ride him because my parents and my neighbor opened up a fence line so we had 6 acres to run on. I miss that guy so much, he passed on a few years ago at the age of 28 from colic, he would be 31 now.

Personally I was just glad to get through with both my horse and myself intact. It could have been a lot worse, I could have had to destroy my then 16 year old horse that was not only my best friend at the time but also worth a lot of money. As far as getting over it I grew up on a farm in a farming/artist community and had seen a lot worse happen. I don't know maybe I just use were I grew up as an excuse but it didn't really bug me much. I was upset and I was pissed that I was bite and that my horse was bite and if I could have gotten a hit in on that dog I would have. To be honest I never lost any sleep over it, the dog got what he deserved, if my horse hadn't been there I would have been in a lot of trouble. I was really upset when the judge declared my boy a danger and told me never to take him off my land, but again it could have been worse he could have ordered him killed.

My dog has a lovely sweet nature, as you can see from the picture, but has one problem, she loves kick boxing. When she was younger she loved to bounce off people when they weren't expecting it, she still loves to run up the stairs then turn and pounce on you. Its just a game to her, and I don't think she realises that she could hurt someone by doing this.

Oh my goodness. I hope that it doesn't hurt too bad. Bruce got clawed by the cat the other day while lying on the couch, but not as bad as this. I hope that you feel better soon.

Wow!! They must have been playig rought! I can't think of any big thing that happened. I had a dog Reggie for many years. He was such a good companion and loved all of us so much. Once in a while though he would get kinda rough and he had sharp claws! That would lead to a little bleeding occasionally. Just loved the pieces out of him and I still miss him very much!

Ohhh...he sounds like he was a sweetie. The dogs I've had in the past were just such blessings, and this time I was able to get two dogs, after a 2 year hiatus of not having any. They are small dogs really, the one who scratched me is 13 pounds, but still a Chihuahua, and has long legs more than anything. I just happen to be in the same spot my other dog was when he attacked. And he didn't harm my little dog, not a scratch at all. So I know it was an accident, just a very painful one, LOL. I have to say though, when I got groceries today, people were looking at me like, who beat you up?

Reggie was with me for 13 years. He was a cocker/springer mix. He had such a big heart! When time came that we had to part ways my son came and got him while I was at work. When I got home....I could't believe how lonely it was. I cried for days. I told the kids that they grew up and moved away....he stayed here with me! We became very good friends!

Ouch! I have a boxer mix pup who weighs about 60 lbs. We were playing around and out came that paw and she scratched me real good on my shin. I know hold a scar that's about 4 inches long. Since I got a tan it's even darker.

When my ex- moved out, I had a male dobie. Well he decided he was the alpha dog and bit me.
But the real worse experience was a pit bull that bit me, then the owner drove away with the dog and I had to get the rabie shots.

Oh my, that sounds horrible. But, I guess love is love. One of my worst experiences with a dog was also my middle sisters worst experience. I had to be about 6, which meant she was about eight.
A big dog jumped up and knocked her down. Everytime she tried to get up, he would knock her down again. She was screaming and hollering and so was I. Some, I forgot who it was got a broom and was trying to hit the dog off of her. He didn't bark or bite. They said that he was only playing with her. But, what a way to play with a kid.
Another incident happened a couple of years ago. I was staying with some friends and I do not remember if I went to feed the dog or pet it, but thar mut snapped at me and bit on my left ring finger. I can still see a little scar right there. I have other ones, but these were the worse for me.

Oh my gosh! Ouch! I don't think anything my dogs have done to me caused me to go to the hospital. But our new dog is annoying, shes like..I don't know, 8 months, but kind of big. I was sleeping on the couch and she just ran from the other room and jumped on the couch by my head! She knocked my glasses off that part of the couch, I had them laying on my book. And then when I got up to try to find my glasses I had to kneel down and she was jumping all over me and licking me! lol.

Hi AmbiePam,
I have never had one of my dogs attacked me like that, whether by accident or not. I did as a child have a bad run in with a german shepherd who was going after my dog. As a kid, I didn't know better and tried to break it up and got bit on the arm. It was only 2 stitches, but it is a good reminder to not get into a dog fight..lol

Can't say I've had a really bad experience with a dog. My husband had a cat when I was pregnant with my oldest. He would come flying at you out of nowhere. One day he ran across the front room, up the couch and came right at my face. He was hissing too. We got rid of him. I told my husband that I will not have a cat like that around my newborn. What if the cat flies at me when I"m holding the baby?

I laugh at our big black lab when I try to get her to walk with me around our acre a few times. She'll take like two steps and then she'll lay back down again. She's so funny!

For some reason big dogs always chase me LOL I don't know why the hell they are doing that. small dogs will wag their tails instead. I always have cats as pets, so maybe the dogs smell them and chase me because they think I am the cat or something. does this men small dogs are Ok with cats? I'll never know :)

I was about 6 or 7 and had gone down to a neighbor's so she could show me something. The dog in the back yard, a small terrier type, jumped up and, completely accidently, my mouth with its fang. I was afraid for a while that I was going to lose one of my permanate teeth.
Honestly, I don't remember if my mom took me to the doctor or not.
I've had one cat send me to the hospital ER twice, once just because I couldn't see to treat the back of my ear & my 1 roommate was IN said hospital & the other one was at work (and doesn't see too good anyway.)
I had been about ready to go over to visit my friend anyway & knew from experiance that going into a hospital with blood all over you tends to get you hauled into the ER anyway.

Oh yeah, it sure does hurt. When I said funny, I meant in the ironic sense because I had no idea it would hurt not just on my eye, but around my eye. I can't use an ice pack, and I was very chagrined about that. I'm not supposed to get it wet or even damp. There goes my plan of sticking my face in a bowl of water!
Maybe next time I should invest in a kitty!

Ouch! That sounds pretty painful. I had a dog, many years ago, by the name of Nick. His mommy was a mix of Lab and Doberman. His daddy was a big black and white, collie of some sort. He had to be tied, at the time, because we had company, and he wanted to get them. lol Anyway, I went to feed him, and started to leave, he didn't want me to, so he grabbed me by the sleeve, and pulled me back to him. He tore my favorite sweatshirt, and I fell, while he was dragging me. lol I got some scrapes and bruises, out of the deal. He never tried to bite me, or anything, I just think he didn't want me to leave,

I've had a lot of bad experiences with dogs, but it's never been the dog's fault, lol. When i was 9 my sister and i were walking home from school and we seen a dog, my sister was scared of it, and her being older than i, i copied her, so i was scared too. We crossed a busy road to avoid the dog and then my sister crossed back over, and i followed after her but got hit by a car. I was bruised and battered, i was lucky that the car slowed down. Another time, a few years ago, i was attempting to take 2 Rottweiler puppies for a walk. The owner of the dogs had not trained them properly, so they were disobedient. They were half grown and it was very hard to walk them, they kept pulling on the leads and i ended up having an asthma attack, lol :)
