The Presient of Iran asked to visit Ground Zero. He said he wanted to place a wreath at the site. The NYPD said no.What do you think? What does he really think?

I think he has as much right to visit as anyone. It wasn't him that blew up the buildings nor was it his country. His country is suffering for it and so are his people. He probably is a man who feels the pain 9/11 has inflicted on the world and maybe by his visiting the site he will have a better idea of the magnitude of the event. I think this would help bridge the gap between the U.S.A. and Iran before it is too late and the U.S.A. invades Iran for it's oil.

you are right, he does have the right. However, the N.Y.P.D. simply could not suply enough man power to guaranty his safdty. If he wishes to do so on his own, he does have a visa and can. However, all it is going to take is one activist or vigilante with a weapon and he's toast. then who would be to blame? I'm sure it would be our fault. He was warned though. What would help bridge the gap between him and us is ....oh...i don't know, stop sending his troups in to iraq to attack our troups, (this by the way was once considerd an act of war) and maybe stop threatening to cook Isreal? maybe I'm just being silly though.

You both have good points. It would probably a logistic nightmare for him to visit. I find it sad that most of the people in his country like the USA and do not agree with him. We will never know his true intentions. I have read that even years before Mr. Bush became President he planned to run for President and to try to figure some excuse to run into Iran, ostensibly for the oil. That being said to not talk to our enemies could lead to more problems than talking to them. Hold our friends close, our enemies closer. After all Bush wants the ability to spy, why not see face to face?

"try to figure some excuse to run into Iran, ostensibly for the oil" c'mon, I've seen your posts, your better than that, that cliche is getting tired.

His wanting to vist there is nothing more than a dog and pony show. the N.Y.P.D. actualy had legitiamte and logistical reasons for their rections, true many may have felt personaly it as moraly wrong to allow it, but, on a pracitcal note, there is no way they would have had the masn power to guaranty his safety. It was rumored though he may be attempting on his own anyway. this should preove to be most entertaining. Headline: "Iranian president mugged in downtown manhatten, we told you so"

Good points. It would make it look bad for us if something happened to him. Our administration considers him a terror sponsor and refuses to have anything to do with him. This may end up being a problem.
