I have a beautiful fern I got a month ago and its doing so good for me. I was wondering if anyone knows if I clip a piece off can I start another one? Do I start it in water? Or do I just plant it in dirt? I really want to start another one. Thanks

Hi TerryZ, read this page here: http://www.uvm.edu/pss/ppp/articles/fernsin.html and if I were you I'll defnitely try it out by cutting a small piece and set in water, and when it gets roots plant it in some good soil. :)

Glad you found it helpful, and where would have we been without the blessings of so much knowledge that is readily available on the Internet :)

I think it can be done. What I do when I take a cutting, is cut the stem at a slant, then fill a milk bottle or vase with water and stand the cutting in there. If you have some rooting powder, add it to the water and the cutting should root in a couple of weeks or so. Then all you need to do is plant it out in some rich, woody soil and it should prosper.
I'm lucky, I have three ferns in my garden which the birds planted for me, four lupin plants and three wild strawberry plants. Then I have an oak tree, which I have put in a pot to stop it growing too big for my garden. I've made it into a kind of bonsai oak. lol. I love it. It's about two feet tall now.
Good luck with your fern. Brightest Blessings.
