Yesterday I was SOOOOOOOOOOO ecstatic 'coz I made eye contact with a CUTE squirrel. I was walking home from the supermarket when the little fellow came down from a tree near my apt. building. He went up and down the trees nimbly, looking for food. I stopped walking home and tried to approach it slowly while he wasn't looking at my direction, then I stopped around 1 metre away from him.
Then suddenly he changed direction towards me and he jolted when he spotted me. But since I didn't make any movement, it stared at me, wondering what I was doing or probably wondering who I was hi hi hi...It was SOOOO CUTE!!! He made eye-contact with me when I was only about 40 cm away from him.
It REALLY made my day! ;-D
I never felt this close to nature when I lived in the big city in Bandung, Indonesia. But here in Lapland, Finland, even though I live near downtown, I can see squirrels a lot and I can hear birds chirping every time I go outside. SPLENDID!!!
Do you get to see many animals near you?;-D Have you ever had encounters with a squirrel?
Btw, here's a pic of a squirrel that looked a bit like the one that stared at me. Isn't he CUUUTTEEEE?!?!?! (side note: my hubby said that the egg in the pic was a fake!!!)

Good for you! Unfortunately, I did not see a squirrel yet. But I like watching animals, especially the cute one like lovely birds, cats, dogs, or even fish. Actually, I love to collect pets. I have rabbits, rats(color white), gold fish, and cats. All of them were being purchased except the cat. My day is not complete if I can't see them.
Have a nice day and God speed!

Hi, Shiloh!
Yeah, I know what you mean. I used to live in a big city in Indo, but now I live in a village in Finland and it's SO different. Nature is everywhere, so it's so easy for me to enjoy it.
Baby bunny? AWWW...I LOVE bunnies, too!!! ;-D We didn't have a big garden back in Indo, so we never had bunnies as pets, but my cousins had some when we were kids and I LOVED them he he he...

LOL the scene you described was so funny! I mean, I think I only see that in cartoons! a man making an eye-to-eye contact with a small furry animal. ^__^;; but yeah, its also cute since it would look like you're communicating with the squirrel. and that rarely happens! I think. ^__^;;
I don't get to see different animals where I live or where I work. I only often see the neighbor's dogs or cats, stray dogs and cats. and often we don't do much weird communicating. because they look all dirty and we will just avoid each other. ^__^;;

hey, remember to pay the squirrel its talent fee when you take its picture! LOL

Yeah, that was what I thought, too, that it was a rare moment since the squirrel really looked into MY eyes for a few seconds he he he...I long for that to happen again, you know? And hopefully next time I'll have my camera ready he he he...
I understand what you mean about stray dogs and cats he he he he he he...THANKS for your response. ;-D

Hello Ailema reading this discussion made me remember my 'Squekeey' he was a little squirrel my brother found and we brought him up for some time. He was so cute running around the house and on our shoulders. I used to love playing with him. And when he grew up a bit my mom said he needs to go back being 'wild' so we let him out. We had a small garden and lots of squirrels used to come around and Squekeey went away with them. But somehow for a long time my brother and me would always look out for him and he always picked the nuts we left for him but now we changed home and there is no way i can find him. And yes its really great to be close to nature :)

Hi, Ano!
Squekeey, eh? Nice name for a pet squirrel. So you did manage to get him to your house? COOL!!! Ahhhh...such a bliss for you to have lots of squirrels there. Too bad now Squekeey's gone. But at least you had him for a while. ;-D Yup, being close to nature's really relaxing. ;-D

Hello ailema4ever,
Oh, when I went out for a while to have my lunch just now, I saw a squirrel under my friend's car, next to mine. I was trembling *laughs* You know that I am afraid of animals! Even though the squirrel didn't run towards me, I felt so nervous; afraid that it will run towards and jump in front of me, out of nowhere! I quickly opened the door of my car and got into the car in a hurry. I even checked everywhere in the car - afraid that the squirrel managed to get in (though the car was locked and there is no way not even an ant could enter the car! *laughs*)

Hello ailema4ever,
I am glad that I was safe and sound *laughs* By the way, what kind of harm this little animal will do to me? I just wonder... *laughs* I just afraid of almost every single animal in this world. If you know my education background, you will be surprised then *laughs*

...hehehe! You nut! Squirrles are cute.
...At my parent's house, when I was in high school, I used to feed a squirrle peanut butter off a spoon. He would sit on my knee and enjoy his treat. I never tried to touch him. I let him touch me.
...Up north out in the woods by my cabin, I have been close to many wild animals. I had some fox kits come up to me, very close. I have been within a few inches of a baby skunk and baby porcupine. Once while canoeing, we floated around a bend and my dad could have reached out and touched a doe and fawn drinking at the waters edge.
...It is ever so exciting to be close to God's wild creatures. It is nice to see others get a charge out of it to.
...Enjoy nature and peace be with you. =(^;^)= Della

THANKS for your compliment, Della. Yes, my hubby'll agree with you that I'm nuts hi hi hi...
HEY, you're SOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky to be able to be close to many wild animals. Baby skunk and porcupine? WOW!!! And touching a doe? I'd LOVE for a squirrel to touch me. So they like peanut butter, eh? Hmmm...interesting he he he...
Yes, I'm trying to enjoy Lapland's nature as best as I can, THANKS, Buddy. ;-D

...My close friends will describe me as a woodsy kind of girl. I love to go hang out in the woods. Whenever I go north, if I am not at the lake, I am in the woods. It is where I go to feel close to God.
...My parents started building their cabin at Higgins Lake when I was three. They bought a canoe a few years after and we have floated by a lot of wild life, very close. There used to be signs posted on the banks of the Ausabo and Manistee Rivers saying not to kill the rattle snakes!
...Because of my father's love of nature, my mother's love of gardening, I grew up to appreciate them, have learned much about them and continue to crave more knowledge and experiences with them.
...What other animals do you see in Finland? The flower you have posted on your blog page is beautiful. I have never seen anything like it. What kind is it?
...Enjoy nature, girlfriend! Peace be with you. =(^;^)= Della

Yeah, with a mother and a father like that, I don't wonder why you become a woodsy kind of girl. ;-D
I LOVE cabins!!! My in-laws have two cabins near a lake he he he...So far I've seen birds and squirrels and reindeer over here. Reindeer cross the streets wherever they feel like it, so drivers have to be REALLY careful here, esp. when it is dark outside.
I know what you mean about feeling close to God when you're surrounded by nature. I've never been this close to nature before as I used to live in a small alley in Bandung, Indonesia. Lots of houses crammed together side by side...not enough space for animals to roam freely, except cats he he he...
I'm afraid I don't know the name of the flower I posted in my profile. It's my mother-in-law's flower. She grows lots of flowers during summer. My in-laws used to be farmers, so they know a lot about gardening and farming. They even planted their own potatoes!!! And they have their own little strawberry garden. My hubby and I helped them pick the strawberry last summer. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!
We also went to the forest to pick blueberries and lingonberries (they're the same size as blueberries but the colour is red and the skin's slightly harder to chew than blueberries). I LOVE it!!! Too bad I hadn't had many opportunities to do that last summer, so I'm looking forward to going to the forest again next summer. WHOOPPPPEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I have several squirrels who regularly visit my garden for the peanuts and other bird seed. One or two have even found the courage to come to the back door and one has been in the kitchen a few times too. The cheeky little fella in the picture is just one of them.

It sounds like you had quite a moment with your squirrel encounter! I enjoy encountering different animals in nature as well. Sometimes I have come very, very close to deer on my property, and I always enjoy these moments.
Hopefully, you'll meet your squirrel friend again....

Hi, Pedro!
Yes, I had never seen a squirrel back in Indonesia (well, except perhaps in a zoo ha ha), so I was SO happy that I could finally be THAT close to the little fellow. I've seen some squirrels from my apt. window, but my apt. is on the third floor, so yesterday was the first chance I got to be THAT close to the squirrel.
THANKS, I hope I'll meet him again he he he...

when I was a child, living in a village where there's so many mountains around us.As a child,we always play games there.animals move beside us and even not afraid of us ,just like a friend. I like animals but I don't want to leave them in the cage!they have the right to get the freedom to walk, run or fly.this summer vacation I visit a zoo with my friend and see a tiger lied in the cap which seems unanimaled. That make me feel very sorrow...

In Florida, where I'm from, there is a ridiculously huge squirrel population. At my undergrad university, they had become very used to people and had no fear. If you sat on a bench in the park, within minutes you would have a dozen squirrels sitting next to you, waiting to see if you had something to eat. One time a squirrel even dropped a bagel from a tree onto my friend's head.
Here in England I've only seen one squirrel. But there are rabbits EVERYWHERE, which is rare in Florida, so I find it really cool.
