Well as you know I've been doing several discussions about animal experimentation, and one MyLotter was curious about if there was some list of which companies do test on animals for so-called cosmetic or other reasons...I came up on a few sites and I was amazed....I had been told Proctor and Gamble does for it's products, but when I looked at the list I was staggered that such companies as Arm & Hammer and Mead were listed...like WTF?? Why would Arm & Hammer test products on animals? For crying out loud, they manufacture of all things, cat litter! Isn't that a contradiction? And Mead??? As in the paper product company? Pray tell, why would they test also? Then you get to see just what products each manufacturer makes...and so many are common products I bet each one of us uses--like glad bags, toothpastes, and on and on--yeesh: On this website one can download the list as a PDF file: http://www.geari.org/companies-test-on-animals.html For those who might have problems downloading the list here it is: Arm & Hammer (Church & Dwight) tBic Corporation (as in Bic Pens) Boyle-Midway (Reckitt Benckiser) Chesebrough-Ponds (Faberge´, Ponds, Vaseline), Church & Dwight (Aim, Arm & Hammer, Arrid, Brillo, Close-up, Lady’s Choice, Mentadent, Nair, Orange Glo International, Pearl Drops), Clairol (Aussie, Daily Defense, Herbal Essences, Infusium 23, Procter & Gamble), Clorox (ArmorAll, Formula 409, Fresh Step, Glad, Liquid Plumber, Pine-Sol, Soft Scrub, S.O.S., Tilex), Colgate-Palmolive Co. I remember years ago I was part of the massive campaign to end testing on animals for cosmetics etc and I really thought there had been a breakthrough. Sadly though looking at your long list, this is not so. I find it very sad that Body Shop who were so ethical went and sold their company to L'Oreal, this goes against everything Anita Roddick stood for. I just hope they do not think they can go back to experimenting on these products. Animals do not need to have these disgusting and painful experiments performed on them. It really makes me sick and I always read the label on any product to ensure it has not been tested on animals. I am aware that there are flaws though, as some of the ingredients they add to a product could have been tested on animals beforehand, so I am never 100% sure if it is animal testing free. Thanks for posting this, it is worthh us knowing as so many of us are still unaware that this goes on to such an extent.

What's so surprising I too had heard a lot of companies said that they don't test on animals, and yet, now I see them on this list..I guessed they lied to us, no?

It's surprising that so many huge companies still do. There are so many it's hard to not buy from all of them.

Oh my gosh!!!! Looks like the list of experimenters is longer than non-experimenters would be. That makes me sick, I buy alot of those products, now I'll have to search high and low, just to find someone who doesn't. Can you believe this. Why would so many places be so freaking evil? I guess I need to start making my own deodorant and stuff. If you want a laugh, check out my last discussion. I bet you haven't got one of theses. lol

It is awful! I had no idea it was that many. I didn't even think it was even close to that! WOW. That's terrible! I don't think ANY living being should be used for any sort of testing and that includes the disgusting little mice. All animals have feelings just as we humans do, they just can't speak as we do. However I bet they scream when in pain or in any type of discomfort because they're living beings. How cruel can one be? I'll never understand. I would like to turn the tables and have the tests on humans who think it's ok just to show how it feels to have these things done to them.

Pye, thank you so much for this list! It sure is ataggering, I guess my question is what companies should we support? I'm printing this list as I speak and I'm going to pass it along on and offline to all my fellow animal loving friends and relatives. This is an eye-opener that I didn't want to see! Thanks again. It is an eye-opener...There were so many products on the list that I just couldn't believe it. There is also a list of products one can get from the same site of which companies don't test on animals...thank goodness it's longer than this one, so maybe we should switch and use their products instead

I admire you for taking a stand on this far-reaching issue, pyewacket, but I really don't believe that the ordinary individual's voice is going to be heard or considered, as is the case with so many issues. I think it is more than sad that the society we live in would condone these practices, but the honest truth is that the majority of people are too wrapped up in their day-to-day existences and don't give a crap about anything else. Unfortunately, the ones who do care(like yourself), find it nearly impossible for their voices to be heard.

The list is staggering and is disgusting. I am going to go home today and throw out a whole bunch of stuff then tomorrow I plan to spend time writing letters to the companies whose products I used to use. I was really shocked to see pet product makers on the list. Do companies think we won't notice? I am glad you have opened my eyes. I try to avoid buying products that test on animals but sometimes I don't read the label and I think I should be more vigilant. My hubby insists on Colgate but I am afraid that his heart is about to be broken because the last tube of that stuff fell in the toilet this morning and now I am going to replace it with a animal friendly product. The only way they will wake up is if we boycott the products and write letters. I think the internet is a great way for the world to find out this type of info and helps to enlighten people so we have the chance to make a difference.

So what you're saying is everything in my house. Nice. It's always awsome when you can put on makeup and get blood on your hands at the same time! Iams? Iams... I mean really Iams? As in Iams Naturals, Iams? My cat eats Iams, anything else messes up her tummy and the kitties outside love it too. I can't believe all that stuff, it's literally like 98% of the products I've got in my home. I wonder if I can find a list of companies that don't test? Maybe that would be easier?

Their wet food was the only thing recalled and my cat won't touch it w/a 10 foot stick. Actually I had tried to feed her almost all of those recalled foods (before I knew) and she never touched a single one. I don't know if she could smell that something was wrong or if she's just a snob and won't eat anything under almost a dollar a can. She used to eat those pouched ones and then one day just decided she didn't want them anymore, after she stopped eating them they were recalled. Now her wet dinner is Fancy Feast Gourmet (the special little green can), those are really good quality. Even my mom has tasted a few, they smelled so good she tasted it (gross) and said they were yummy. Of course the cat was not amused. My cat is 100% like me, anything cheap she turns her nose at it or all of a sudden is "allergic". Hmm... wonder where it comes from, lol. Thanks for the list!!
