Some of you may know I have an interest in archilogy. Well, along with sharing that interest with my roomie, we also share an interest in history. But our interest in history is nothing compared to her interest in mummies. Any and all mummies it seems. She discovered this interesting link I thought I'd share with all of you. http://www.geocities.com/gabigreve2000/mummiesinjapan.html So, who else is interested in mummies? I am interested in them, just not nearly so much as the roomie.

Hi ElicBxn, I am like you and was really interested i archeology, and would have pursuid this dream, were it not for the hard conditions when digging is done in remote areas. I wouldn't be able to do it with all the soft spots I have, getting evry easily ill, and what not. Interested in mummies, yes and not really. It's been puzzling though why they started doing it in the Old Egypt and also in Japan. Very nice studies could be made in regards and thank you for the link you just provided in here TheFortunes

Unfortuantely I have simular problems with why I could not go into the field. Not helped by the fact that ALL the studies in this area are for American sites. Since I have such a severe allergy to corn I won't be going south of the border in this lifetime so I can't study the Mexican/Central American ruins, much less go on a dig in the area.

Hi again, and we cannot be lucky with our conditions really, and it makes me so sad - not being able to pursue what you'd love to do. Anyway, after reading the site I felt really puzzled and somewhat horrified by what these priests were doing to themselves in order to get mummified. I HATE pain, while their order actually approved of inflicting pain to your own body in order to ascend. I really would never do something like it, and cannot imagine that in Japan it had to be forbidden by law, as there obviously were more people considering doing it...wow, can you imagine it...ts, not me, not ever. I am about to write a piece in regards, and thanks again for bringing this here for us ;) TheFortunes TheFortunes

At one time in my life when I was a kid I wanted to be an Egyptologist..look out Indiana Jones here I come...LOL Also am a history buff...I wasn't even aware though that there were Japanese mummies...Egyptian yes, but not Japanese. I remember when I was in college, I took an Egyptian history class and my professor said that in the Cairo museum the Egyptian people protested and made such a stink about it that the museum closed the mummy room to all but historians and archeaologists...they claimed and said they were tired of people going and gawking at the mummies and maybe even making fun of them, and that it was desecration to display their ancestors in such a way...Hate to say it but I kind of agree with that logic...it'd be like if we suddenly decided to dig up the remains of those buried in Arlington National Cemetery to see the remains of JFK. Maybe you could enlighten me though...my professor had said there actually is a word/term for those interested in mummies and for the life of me can't remember what it is now-do you??
