Do you bargain with God?

We had a guest speaker a t church to day and he posed this question to us. I realized that I do at times. Especially if I'm asking God for something very big or important. I guess it goes back to the feeling if you're asking someone for a favor or help in some way you always wonder how you are going to pay for the help or I do anyway. I mean if you think about it what could we possibly do that would matter to God, hence it's through God's grace we are saved not through works lest any man should boast.

By the words of the bible, God knows whats in our hearts. Right? So if one would bargin with him, dont you think he would know already? Or is bargaining coming from our minds and not our hearts? Bay xx

I would say from our minds I have faith in my heart but the mind asks too many questions at times.

In response to the last post, when I was younger I was really going through some emotional turmoil ( I was pregnant , not married , and a teenager). I started praying asking God what I should do I kept repeating the question over and over then this loud booming voice inside of me quoted the first commandment to me. Thou shalt have no other God before me. i t was awesome and i have never forgotten it. It's like the voice cam from inside me. this also has made me try to be aware of what I spend my time on and what I consider to be important. i have finally come the conclusion that anything is permissable as long as nothing is more important to you than God.

Hi, Im not really religious, I dont attend church regularly, but I do pray and talk with God. I thank him for what I have & the people in my life, my family and friends. He must know my faith is not at its fullest, but I feel he blesses me anyway. I have so much to be thankful for, and it seems some of my prayers have been answered when asked most times. I find comfrot in scriptures, but sometimes they lead to questions that it seems no one can answer. Its confusing from all the translations from century to century, language to language. I want to believe, its how I was raised, but I dont treat him as a "God" like I probably should. Bay xx

My mom did once, when my sister pushed her hand through a glass door while chasing after my older sister. My sisters is in good shape and my mom stopped her cola drinking addiction.

I don't think God is rigid and I believe you ask him for a sign he will give it to you. He has me he's even spoken to me.

..no.. I don't think I do.. Perhaps because I see Him as my Father.. a loving parent, and haven't felt the need to bargain.. But I think it is good to have heart to hearts with God, freely telling him what our concern is and why, etc.. Not that it persuades God! But because it is real good for us to have good heart to hearts with God!:)

I do believe that God won't give us certain things if he doesn't think we are ready for them but I believe talking to him helps us understand a lot of things.

You mean you can bargain with God? As a Chinese, that gives me alot of assurance that God is a reasonable businessperson who can be negotiated with ;-) Jokes aside, I do ask the devine for certain things - like, grant me this but I'll do x,y,z from time to time. But somehow I've reasoned to myself that this is not a bargain but a promise of sorts, which is kind of interesting in its own way from a very wiered personal belief system

That also ties into todays message. He was speaking of covenant verse contract. a contract is drawn up because of lack of trust a covenant is agreed upon because of trust.

We have no right at all to bargain with God. God wants us to be obedient to Him and to have faith on Him and if we have faith, we know that God would do what is good for us and He knows what we need even before us to request. And if God does not want, what is the use of our bargain? We should be humble before God and that was why God loved Abraham so much because he was obedient and faithful to God.

I'm not asking what our rights are I'm asking people to be honest and i would be a liar if I said that no matter my intentions or faith I find my mind asking dumb questions. anyone who says they don't think about it I think is a liar.

Hello seahorse4445 :) I don't bargain with God. I just ask Him for what I want or need. And then, I just go on with my usual ways. My thinking is that if He thinks that what I'm asking is good for me. He'll give it anyway whether I ask for it or not. Praying makes me just work harder for what I'm praying for. Like, if I need money for medication, I'll ask God but I won't bargain. I'll just find way on how to get that money with the assurance that God will help me. :)

I do sometimes too -- especially if it's something that is extremely important to me or to a loved one.

I know I don't think we can help it if we feel if we are asking a big favor we do not feel that anyone will do it for nothing. The thing I've found with God is believing that he will do what you want when you ask.
