Homemade Cleanser

My wife came across this recipe or what ever you wish to call it. It's for a cleanser. It works great plus leaves an excellant aroma throughout the house. To make it you need a spray bottle. One that has a decent sized nozzle on it. Old glass cleaner spray bottles work great. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. A few drops of liquid dishwashing soap. A couple teaspoons of white vinegar then top off with water. Shake lightly not too hard to cause bubbles. It will be cloudy looking too.It cleans almost any surface. Tables, counters, floors, appliances etc. I haven't tried it on windows though. Might work. Don't use it on unfinished food as the oil will saturate it. But a finsihed table or hutch is okay. I do my Hutch with it. She makes this cleanser for ourselves, our daughter and her boss's wife as well. They all love it to and say it's great and cheaper than buying all those special cleansers.

That is a great recipe! It is healthy to use around everyone including pets. It is worrisome with all the chemicals in the world today. Vinegar is good to clean tile and linoleum as well. My mother uses that and it leaves a nice shine and disinfects everything naturally. Also, lemons are very good for cleaning. They aren't abrasive, but the acid will pull off all kinds of dirt and grime! Heres a good tip I learned, you can steam clean the inside of your microwave with lemon and oranges. Put slices of lemon and orange in a bowl of water, put it in the microwave, set it for 5 minutes and the inside of your microwave will need a good wiping, but it kills half the work and it leaves your home smelling citrusy fresh!

Thanks so much Grandpa Bob I shall try this one out for sure when I run out of what I am currently using! :)
I am always looking for ways to save money and also to use healthier products that are safer and more economical. There is nothing like my grandmothers baking soda and water! LOL
The home remedies are generally the best and let's not forget the power of vinegar!!

Heres the formula that I use. I just learned about it this year and I love it. 1/2 cup white vinegar. I pt rubbinh alchol, (I found some mint scented) a few drops of dish washing liguid, Put in a gallon jar or jug and fill with water. Put in a spray bottle for using. I use it for every thing from floors to stove top and windows. it also disinfects as vinegar is a disinfectant as well as is is the rubbing alchol.

Ooooh, this sounds so easy and so good! I know that vinegar makes a great cleaning agent. I will certainly try this! Where does one get essential oils? I would love to find some lavendar or gardenia!

I get my essential oils for the most part from health food stores. Some are available in pharmacies, too. I get tea tree oil at Wal Mart in the same aisle as the vitamins. You can also get essential oils online.

I will have to try that sometime. Some of the cleaning stuff you buy from the store can get so expensive. Thanks for sharing this with us.

This is great. I love homemade products, particular cleaning items. They are generally much healthier & cheaper. Especially adding essential, lavender being my favourite, makes it almost pleasant doing some cleaning. hank you.

Thank you. I just bought such a bottle of cleanser and it cost me a dollar. I can save with your formula many dollars a year, probably more than I make at mylot.
If we all do it your way Procter and Grumble will go broke.
Get the stuff patented before it is too late.
Happy mylotting, grandpa Bob!

I thought I had responded to this discussion, but upon checking I have not. I use vinegar for a lot of things. I sprayed straight white vinegar around my front and back door to repel flies, I think with lemon in it it would do even more. I quit using fabric softener, I use white vinegar instead. It works well, and has a brightening effect on colors. It never leaves a scummy stain. I think we all need to do some of these more natural, less expensive cleaners for our homes. You have started an excellent discussion.
