What advice do you have for people like me who would like to but haven't yet? Especially for poetry -- I've written countless numbers of poems & would just need to organize them into a book. Any advice would be much-appreciated.

Yes, I would also recommend www.lulu.com . They do all the work for you, well, at least they set up a shop for you. Also with lulu you can get an ISBN number and they will place it Amazon and such online stores. There's also no shipping and handling to bother with. Of course, make sure you have a good layout. I believe you have to use pdf files. That might have changed by now. Get your material organized and you'll be fine. Good luck.

Well, if you just want to self publish for a vanity, then great - give as gifts - wonderful! make money - forget about it! Otherwise, just lay out your poetry in a pleasing manner & either get them photo copied or find out the printing requirements for a vanity press & do it to meet the requirements. Because you don't have the ability and are not part of the publishing network to get them to major stores, you can just assume that you will lose money. And if you aren't a famous poet, most people won't buy it. If you want to try & make $$ with your work, start sending them to magazines, I guess there's poetry magazines out there - I have no clue. You can also send them to some major magazines if you have seen poetry printed in them. If your good enough and you sell enough, you may find someone to actually print them for you.
