Patterns: Share, sell, or keep to yourself?

If you've come up with a new pattern for an item, do you like to share it freely, sell it to people who are interested, or do you keep it to yourself? I've been wanting to get into writing crochet patterns for a while now, and I have had a few people ask me if I would sell them the patterns for some of the stuff I make. I haven't yet, mainly because I'm not sure the way I write patterns is totally intelligible to other people. That, and I'm not entirely sure if I feel that I SHOULD sell the patterns--they are things that I've created, but they're based on very simple stitch patterns and techniques.

I think if I developed a very clever pattern, I would sell it, maybe on a blog as a pdf, or something. There are quite a few people who do this, and I guess it's just a side thing. I wouldn't sell it for a lot, but just to make a bit of extra cash off of my own idea.

That's another thing about my patterns--I'm not sure how clever they really are. They just seem so simple to me! :)

I tend not to share my creations. I don't think I would be good at writing the steps down.

I've sold a few knitting patterns in the past, but it's hard to write them down. When I come up with a new pattern, most of the time, it's on the fly and I don't write down anything. If the patterns are yours, no matter how simple the stitch, there's no reason to not sell them if you want to.

Oh thats a tough one...I think I would keep them to myself..mainly because I dont know I'd want to share a pattern I created since i created it for me (keep in mind i'm talking clothing) and as for sharing goes...well in my past experiences when you lend someone something you either dont get it back in the same condition OR you just dont get it back so I'm not too inclined to share with ppl anymore
