Took the grandsons & daughter to the Pumpkin Night at the Nature Center near my house Saturday evening. The trails normally for looking at nature and wildlife were turned into mild terror trails lined with maybe 2,000 lit pumpkins. These were all carved by volunteers. Some were absolutely great. REnjoy this one and I'll add a few more photos as I add comments to responses. Can you carve anything this eloborate? I can't. I haven't even tried this with those new fangled stencils they have for this type of carving. So show me some carvings as well maybe? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I have not done much carving, but I did take my kids to "Night of the living Zoo" once and then my great niece another time. That is the zoo's Halloween experience, or it was at that time. They too had wonderful pumpkins carved by volunteers. It is a terrific, but temporary art form.

Angry Pumpkin? - This was one very wierd looking one.
I wonder if one could shellack or varnish them to preserve them? Hmmm? Here's one that kind of looks a tad angry/sad? Hahahaha!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I would think more likely to dehydrate them, then they would look like the apple grannies. I have heard of rubbing the insides with oil to keep them fresh longer. My mom used to dip freshly bloomed flowers into paraffin to preserve them. I wonder if that would work here on these?

Maybe in US pumpkin consider an abundant fruit as I saw in National Geographic where they played game, used this fruit as a bullet to canon and they look for who can shoot that 'bullet' to the furthest distance, they can be a winner. In my country, Malaysia, we enjoy to eat it and it sales price at the mall, currently, for MYR0.76 per kilogram. Presently 1USD = MYR3.36. So MYR0.76 = 0.76/3.36 = 0.23USD per kilogram. But in Malaysia we don't have that big size, about 6 inches in diameter and 5 inches in height. I like it as an appetizer while on having our meal.

Huge Pumpkin - over 600 pounds
Yeah that catapulting pumpkins is actuallt kind of funny to watch. especially when they crash into tiny pieces on the ground. Here's a pumkin that won awards at the Minnesota State fair this year. It is HUGE!!!! Our average pumkins cost about $3 in Minnesota. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Wow! You have pumpkin nights! My daughter would find that very exciting, especially the scary trail. She loves this sort of thing. I have never carved a pumpkin, as we don't celebrate Halloween. I viewed your photo & commented on this clever carving.

Yeah we do. HAHAHA! It was a blast. The trails weren't really scary. The actors did scare a few of the teens and adults but not when a child was around. That was their main concern was to make sure it was friendly for all ages. But it was still a blast. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

2,000 pumpkins? That's a lot of time spent carving. When I was little my parents would take me to look at one of my neighbors houses where their entire family carved about 150 pumpkins each year and displayed them all on shelves set up in their front yard. It was really amazing. I have always loved carving my own pumpkins but can only seem to get two or three done each halloween. I use the stencils since they are a lot more creative than anything I could draw personally. I not only carve pumpkins for my house, I also carve some for my moms work. She runs an assisted living service and the residents there love to see all the pumpkins the workers and family members carve. It puts them in the holiday mood.

Now that's a lot of pumpkins for one family to carve. These at this festival were carved by a few hubdred or more volunteers actually. It's good you do this for your moms work and all. Thanks for the reply. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

You have displayed real art craft. I've carved pumpkin before I think we all have at some point, but I could never finalize it with these results that is for sure.

She is two....but old for her age. She loves baking cookies.....last time she even used the rolling pin. She also stamps in my studio....I let her go. I have one room just filled with all kinds of scrapping and stamping and painting stuff and I let her do her own thing...she is very creative! Deer hunting weekend her and her mommy are staying here while daddy goes hunting. She is going to start her own scrapbook......and don't get in her way or sit in the wrong chair...it's her room too and she lets you know it!

Hi Webeishere, We don't have Pumpkin Night, we have the corn Maze and the Haunted House. We have pumpkin carving contests, with anyone being able to enter. These are awesome pumpkins there. Lots of carving involved. These take so much time to create. My boys always liked to carve our pumpkins when they lived at home. Happy posting..

Our corn mazes are shutting down due to damage and flooding from the rains we've had this month. It's been unreal with the amlount of rain here in Minnesota in the last 3 months. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB M!!~
