I'm Watching For It - I can't wait to see the sidewalks going in

Our street is finally getting some sidewalks beginning on Monday the 29th of October I know it doesn't seem like anything terribly exciting but the kids walk on the road and some of the people drive way too fast. I think it's going to be safer for everyone. The other reason it's so exciting for me is because the guy across the street won't sod his yard or anything until after the sidewalks go in... Every time it rains, the street ends up full of mud that runs off from his property. In dry weather it's like a dust bowl so open windows bring in the beautiful breezes and the not so beautiful dust and dirt. Next, we'll get our trees. You think I'm excited about the sidewalks - just wait for my tree post LOL! How do you feel about sidewalks? Do you have them on your street?

We have no sidewalk on our street. In fact, we moved here about twenty year ago, and still got no sidewalk. On top of that, our whole road is concrete. It seems in Winnipeg, where it gets cold and slippery in December, and then has a lot of snow, and with the black ice underneath, the hospitals do not take in enough business so the city wants to make sure they have a whole lot of people falling on their backsides on the roads and breaking their ankles. If there were sidewalks, we could walk on them, and step to the side on the grass when we get to some slippery part.

My BFF is in Winnipeg. You guys get extreme temperatures - too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Sidewalks would make a lot of sense on your street - if for no other reason except to step on the grassy parts like you said.

Sidewalks are nice. I like them a lot. Keeps me from having to use the mud or take my chances on the road apron. The sad part is, at least stateside, there's sentiment towards not having sidewalks in neighborhoods. Funny thing is, they say that the neighborhoods are for young families with children. -_- "Great..." I always say. Its for families with children, but the children have to walk and bike in the street, usually at the mercy of someone doing 35MPH in the residential zones. Sigh... You're getting trees too Home? Those are great too and really make a neighborhood streetscape look nice. And just like with the sidewalk example, some developers stateside don't believe in putting in trees (or they'll put in as few as possible).

We're in a new subdivision of approximately 10,000 homes and we've been here 4 years with no trees or sidewalks. There's already been a hit and run (they charged the guy after someone turned him in) The trees were part of the features sheet but there's nothing on the final papers. I'm hoping that's an oversight and not an intentional omission on the builders part. These were fields full of trees and now there's hardly any at all. They devastated this area, now let's hope they do something to restore it's natural beauty.

I think that is a good thing, I have just started taking regular walks and all our footpaths are uneven I have often tripped, our paths seem to be done in blocks and the roots from the trees and such has made them very uneven, so it is a good thing that you are getting new pathhs, I think they are very important...

It's going to be safer and make the walk to the ponds so much easier. Currently we dodge speeding cars - and we're not even on a main road. Too bad it's going to be all dug up for halloween though.
