Taco Shell or Taco Bell

A salad that tasted even worse than it looks - Laughing, I took a picture of this taco salad lunch failure, because after one bite we agreed I would not try to make this entree again!

Did you ever eat something at a restaurant and then try to make it at home? Did it work? Sometimes I do OK, and sometimes not. Below is a photo of one of my failures. We saw a package of taco salad shells that you bake yourself and so we tried them. ACKK! They were awful. We ate them and then said we are not doing this any more. Next time we want a taco salad we are going to Taco Bell! This may not have been my worst food prep disaster, but it was pretty bad. Have you had some flops in the kitchen? What was the worst thing you made? Did anybody eat it? How did it look? What will you do next time? Have you copied a restaurant entree or dessert that turned out really well? Better than the restaurant?

Well, at least you tried :-). I'm sure it wasn't as bad as you say. Anyway, next time try the way I make taco salad. Use the soft corn tortillas that you buy in the Mexican section. Cut them in quarters and fry them. They make a great taco salad.

Great idea! I like the corn tortillas better anyway because they are healthier. Now that they have a combination Long John Silver and Taco Bell restaurant near us that serves Lobster Bites, we are happy to just go out, but maybe I will try your way of making the taco salad anyway. Sounds wonderful!

You are right--we probably don't want to know what they do! Well, for one thing, it is not olive oil they use. We are lucky because our local Taco Bell is one of those new combination places that sells fish and chips in addition to the Mexican food. We do not eat fried foods very often, but it is fun to go there once in a while.

I do that often but I make my own shells. Actually I make almost everything from scratch. Often it tastes even better than at taco bell :) ON the other hand we've had quite some flops too, who doesn't? The worst one I guess was when I got too creative on a dinner for some friends. I was doing a soufflé that turned into anything but. We ended up ordering bbq chicken LOL

Souffles are wonderful when they turn out right, but I've had a couple go in the other direction, too, so I know how you must have felt. Chicken is good! Thanks for stopping by.

My mum is like that.Always when she eat something good in the restaurant she want try to make it at home too.Actually it taste the most of the time pretty good. But I tell you what was the worst thing I ever made.i was trying to make some Segedin goulas and my man put(secretly) there some seasing and some hot sauce, what shouldn't go there. So I taste it and it was terrible and I think what I put there, to make ti so awfull. Then I ask my man and he tells me , he didn't mess with it.So of coure we have to put it to the trash and after two days he tell me about his little secret.lol

In so many ways your fellow sounds so much like my fellow! Yes, they do a lot of the same things, including this sneaking of the hot seasoning in the food and then saying they didn't. Eventually the truth comes out ;-)
