Brother and Now niece problems

Some know about the ordeal of my brother being arrested awhile back for arson and attempted murder. Well he went to court recently and is now just charged with violating his bond stipulations, drunk and disorderly and damage to property. So nothing happened recently other than another extension on the case. Now his daughter whom bailed him out twice is now in trouble. My niece and her boyfriend were in Duluth Minnesota Friday evening for dinner etc. She drove the car and he drove his motorcycle. They had a few drinks with dinner as well. Figures huh? Anyhow, She is not positive about the events and how it all happened but somehow as she was following him home after dinner & drinks she hit his and his bike with her car somehow. Now she claims to have been holding his scalp in place with his hooded sweatshirt waiting for the ambulance. he was flown about 200 miles to Hennepin County Trauma Center which is 10 miles or so from me. She blew .16 at the scene and was arrested for DWI. She was released on bail this evening and was also told more charges will more than likely be filed against her. Now I've 2 family members in trouble with the law. Both revolving around the abuse of alcohol. I am thankful that I have been sober for nearly 17 years. That's all I can say. So my niece is coming out tomorrow as her boyfriend is due for some serious surgery. I won't be on much as I am going to see him as well. Thanks all for letting me babble about family issues once again. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

You'd think your niece would learn from her father's example! If it's not one thing with them, it's another it sounds like. Your niece is lucky to be alive, and so is her boyfriend. I hope all goes well with the surgery. Take care hon, and lots of love and hugs to you and your family.

There are many other incidences that have happened with my family and brother that my niece SHOULD have learned from but nope. Not yet anyhow. Maybe this will be the eye opener she needs. I can only hope. As far as her boyfriend I can't say as I have not been to the hospital. But as he was flown almost 200 miles his injuries had to be very bad. My guess is brain damage at least is happening or will. Thanks also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It's too bad they didn't learn a lesson from their Uncle isn't it? I hope your neices boyfriend is going to be ok...it sounds really nasty whatever happened to him. No problem with your babbling...you're discussions are always interesting.

Man, if you didn't have bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all! I feel so bad for you..now remember -- you can not fix the whole world's problems. These people brought them on themselves. You can help, but you are not responsible for them. Take care of yourself and your Dad first. Good Luck

It's not my bad ;luck. I am not the one that sat in jail all weekend. I'm not the one with the spouse in the hospital awaiting surgery. HAHAHAHA! But I know what you mean. It's a sad situation and I can't and won't attempt to change their life styles. It's their choice to live the way they are at this time. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Geez...that's twice the legal limit here! It'd be nice if this is her "bottom" but I some how doubt it. Like you said maybe she will at least be more careful about driving after drinks though. Babble on all you need to, there's always someone here to listen. Do whatever you gotta do to deal with your family, we'll all be here when you have a chance to pop in.

OMG Grandpa Bob, I am so sorry to hear about all of these troubles and so close to the holidays as well. Nothing like more stress. I can't believe she was still walking at a .16 much less driving. .10 is usually the legal limit. She had more than a few drinks. I feel terrible for her boyfriend. My goodness! He is in for some serious surgery that is for sure. Motorcycle accidents do not end well most often and he is lucky to have escaped with his life. Gosh, I will be praying for you and your family during this time. I hope your niece learns from this as well. Take care and try not to let all this get to you!

Yeah the holidays are bad. She and my brother are really bad as far as drinking come the Holidays. Ugghh! I can't wait. Yeah right!! HAHAHA! She says she had 4 drinks only. I told her 1 or 20 if you blow over .08 you're legally drunk. What a phrase, "legally" drunk. Not illegally drunk but legally. Too funny. Anyhow.....I hope to get more info as far as what happened to cause the accident. When I talked to her tonight (Fri) she sounded pretty much out of it emotionally so I didn't press the issue. Thanks ALSO FOR YOU CARE. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I find I can't be sympathetic for them. I can for you however. You are the one who has to deal with this people because of their own stupidity. I have no time for someone getting arrested for DWI. You are doing right, support them in their attempts to get sober, but, that's it.
