Yesterday, I was in the office at work when I noticed a note sitting on the printer. It was lies about 3 of my co-workers and the fact that they were to be scheduled to be transferred else where because they were not doing their jobs and endangering the lives of the people that they are supposed to be taking care of.
The note was left in a place where anyone could find it...it was written by our boss.
What would you do?

I probably would have just moved it so it was not so noticable. It was irresponsible of your boss to leave it there. If you have a boss that you get along with, maybe you could give it back to them, or just put it on the desk of your boss when no one is around.

We only have one office/desk. He wanted us to find it, in his words it was a joke, a team building activity. He is a nasty man

I am trying to get out of there to a different place in the organization, but if this continues I am just out of there.

Okay, first off, notes like this are not "accidently" left lying around. Your boss wanted someone to find it. Now, ask yourself, "What did he want you to do when you found it?". Do the exact other thing of what he wants. That'll teach'um!
I suspect he wanted to create an uproar or scare some people. If I'm right, throw the note away and never tell a soul. However, you know him better than I do as to what he wanted by leaving the note to be found.
Please, let us know how this turns out.

This man is not a typical boss, he is bordering on illiterate and happened to be in the right place at the right time to get this job. The people that are his bosses are awful.
Now to add to this, after the note was found, he called up and told the 3 people who were discussed in the note to come in that day at their regular time but not come to the regular workplace but to his bosses office.
BTW - He has lied about me causing a great deal of trouble between him and me, which then grew to include his boss and HR - the resolution - I have issues. There were people that witnessed the event and no one wanted to ask them what happened. They would rather be ostriches.

Hey, I've worked at places like that. I always left as soon as possible.
I realize sometimes it just is not possible to quit. But I'll tell you something I've personally seen and can attest to. Any place that runs off its good folks and promotes guys like this is going to go out of business. I've seen this happen at 2 different companies. You might as well start looking for another job now before everyone you know at work is also looking and the job market is flooded.
Since 1977 I've usually been self employed. The boss is the worst ahole I ever met.

I'm wondering if it's left there on purpose or she forgot to pick it up? If you have information or knowledge that this is in fact not true what she is saying and their jobs are in jeopardy, you should go to her supervisor, everyone has a boss they answer too. I am sure your co-workers would appreciate it if you helped to save their jobs and their reputations. If she is spreading lies about them it could haunt them for years to come and have lies on thier working habits will appear on their records. I would definitely do something, maybe it was meant for you to find the note.

I have gone to his management about his lies and they would rather not disturb the status quo. THey are like ostriches...they bury their heads in the sand.
It seems that at the lower levels at least..the management here is awful

Gee, what a nice boss...NOT. Is there a higher up?? ...someone above your boss that you could report this about and tell the person quite frankly that you boss is spreading lies about your co-workers? Of course it could put you in a sticky situation and your boss might retaliate as well against you so you're kind of in a catch-22 situation

The higher ups are ostriches..they don't want to know.
FOr example - in August we had a barbeque, I was asked to cook, for probably about 50 or 60 people. I said sure, but I did want to do it alone, since it was well over 90 degrees and it would involve several hours cooking on the grill. Several people were a witness to this conversation
The next thing I know, he is denying a request to work overtime because I refused to cook on the grill - I never refused and everyone saw me cooking. So he lied abot what I said and still retailiated.
I went to his boss who refused to ask the other people what they heard, she did not want to involve people needlessly. At this same time I had asked for a transfer to a different area and it was denied because I had issues to resolve in the house.
