Yesterday here in Minnesota was an off year election. We voted for School Board members and also a refferendum levy for schools in our area. I won't reveal how I voted. I have no children in school so the levy was not important as far as school funds directly for me etc. Our school distric is facing a 72 million dollar budget deficit or whatever you call it. Now there were 4 questions for just the levy. All tied together with the results determing how much of a budget levy/increase would be enacted. I won't explain as it's very complicated. I'll say that if and only if did question 1 pass did anything else have a chance of passing. Okay so the levy was passed and there will be an increase in my property taxes to get the funds for this levy. I am not very pleased but at least it isn;'t the full $72 million levy that could have been. What do you think of a levy like this being passed and raising your property taxes heftily if you have no kids? My outlook is if the schools have the funds it makes the area more attractive for families with kids thus rasing the property values of homes including mine. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I have often felt that we need to all share in finding the funds for our schools. Those kiddos are your next Policemen, Doctors, Gas station owners, inventors, public servants, public employees. They may fix your roads, plow your roads, build and remodel your homes. I do not feel like older people should opt out of providing for the next generation. I like what you said about attracting young families and raising your property values, it is sooo true.

Oh I understand all this about whom the children WILL be in the near future. I just hate my property taxes going up for me as I have no kids in the schioools anymore. But I will pay the higher taxes and the value of my home will increase as well I am sure. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We voted on one last night and it also passed. Several years ago we built a new high school on the premise that it would attract people and industry to town....well that didn't happen. But the kids do need a proper education and the enviroment is important. I do have one gripe. It's like any big business and there is alot of waste. I wish we could hire a budget director who actually could find the waste in the system. But as I said every big business including government waste more then we'll ever know.

The main money was needed for new computers and technology for the students here in Anoka School district. There doesn't appear to be waste in our district just a lot of money shortages. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~
