The Nursing Home Called Today

The nursing home that my dad is st called twice this afternoon. The first call was Social Services letting us know his paper work is all drawn up & he is ready for discharge for Sunday at my time choosen. Also to let us know that they have set up a time for a Social Worker to come over after he is settled back in home for an evaluation as to what if any services he will be needing and or available for hi. Now the other call was a bit disturbing but funny at the same time. They said they found him this morning on the floor near his bed with a large bump on his head. Seems he tried to get up on his own to use the bathroom sometime in the evening and fell. The swelling has subsided and he has no ill effects from the fall. Still coherant and oranry as hell they say. He is bruised but doing good. My guess is since he knows we aren't happy with him coming home not being able to walk etc he wanted to prove to himsel;f and the staff he is ready. But guess what dad? N O T !!! But he will be home Sunday and we shall see where it goes as far as me making him walk and or exercise. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I certainly do hope you get help for your dad when he comes home or I hope he ISN'T going to be like my mom. I sure could have used outside help with her but she wouldn't hear of it so I got to be the one and only caregiver for her....yeesh, what joy...NOT

Talked with social services this morning once again. We are set for a home visit evaluation to see what he will be eligible for without charge. We have the home care for bathing etc also coming out for evaluation etc. So dad is paying through his nose but will be home and semi happy I think. HAHAHA!! Sorry you had no help. I have to have it or I'll end up hospitalized for a breakdown or my back. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It's great news that your Dad will be coming home soon and I'm sure he doesn't want to be a burden on you and that's the reason he tried to get up on his own. Thank God he wasn't hurt badly or his little jaunt could have backfired on him!

I think he really wants to get up walking again. Especially after refusing the therapy and being told I'd be his new therapist when he gets home. HAHAHAHA! I am glad he wasn't hurt seriously as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I can understand that your dad wants to do it himself. Its hard to accept help from other people. I'm sure this is hard on all of you to deal with changes. Good luck and hope Sunday isn't stressful

He wants to show everyone he is ready even though he himself knows he isn't. But I won't leave him and make him pay for his time there. He will owe them about $1,200 as it is for a week. Grrrr! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob, I'm glad that things are moving along, regarding social services, and the like. I'm very sorry to hear about your dad's fall, although I do understand why you've said "it was somewhat funny, at the same time." Your dad is likely trying to prove to everyone, that he's able to get around on his own. My sister-in-law had a couple of nasty falls, a couple of years ago, in a similar situation. She's also 'very stubborn.' I pray things will work out well for everyone, when you bring your dad home.

Yeah I miss having someone here to talk to or yell at other than my Buster. Hee hee. The farthest he will need to walk is from his bedroom to the kitchen table which is about 50 feet. he was walking 70 feet with assistance at the home so he will be okay somewhat. I just have to be along side him as he walks for a bit. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Oh, my, I am glad there are no bones broken. He is a determined cuss, right? Sad thing is, that will go in statistics against the care home. Too many falls etc. can earn them an extra visit from the state surveyors, even if it was not their fault he decided not to use a call light and get someone to help him to the bathroom. So what happens if he has to get up in the night at home, does he go on his own? Do you have to get up with him? Maybe this is more than we want to know on a public forum.

He has a urinal/bedpan container in his bedroom and has for years on end. That's how lazy he is. He was using the urinal/bedpan before he had the strokes and was very healthy. Now that's lazy huh? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Oh, that's sad. I hope he does well when he comes home. You will take better care of him I'm sure because you are his family. It sounds like he just wants to do it by himself and not have to get anyone to help him. That's kinda how I am in a way too. So I'd probably be just like that if it were me in that situation.

He could have done it with the aid of a walker but they don't leave one in the room. We went there this morning to visit him and asked the nursing staff to leave a walker and maybe he won't fall. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDAP BOB !!`

I hope your dad won't be overdoing things so that he can get home as soon as possible because he might end up really hurting himself. I guess he just miss being home and be with your family. I know that he is being well taken care of in the nursing home, but there is just no place like home and family. cheers!

Now see dad, if you would of been doing your therapy like you were supposed to be, you wouldn't have fallen. Ornery old.... Anyways, glad to hear dad didn't hurt himself real bad in the fall.

I saw him this morning. The bruise is really small and it's near his left temple. I think he hit his head on the edge of the table or bed from the location. I never asked where in the room they found him. But it's not bad and he was coherent so I am not too concerned now. Just glad he will be home. Well glad to a point that is. This will just add more stress to my plate. HAHAHA! Life goes on I say. Thanks also. I can't kick him in the pants as he only wears PJ's around the house. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That is kind of scary and funny at the same time. Stubborn! Well, that is a good trait sometimes. At least he figured he would try hahaha! I hope you can get him to walk more and excercise those muscles. If you don't use it you lose it is what they say. Thanks for the update!

hE DIDN'T WALK A LOT BEFORE HE WENT TO THE HOSPITAL THEN THE HOME. bUT THE WALKING HE WILL DO ONCE AGAIN ISN'T NO MORE THAN MAYBE 50 FEET AT ONE TIME TO GET FROM HIS BED TO THE DINNER TABLE. mAYBE 20 FEET TO THE BATHROOM FROM HIS BED AND THE CHAIR IN THE LIVING ROOM. sO HE WILL BE OKAY WITH THE WALKER FOR SUPPORT ETC.

Do you mean to say he was possibly lying there all night on the floor? Do staff check patients during the night? I guess he was trying to prove he can walk, but it is a little foolish of him to try walking without someone present. I remember my old Nanna had a stroke one night. She had no telephone because she didn't believe in them. She managed to crawl to bed. In the morning she crawled to the front door, & propped it open with a stool. Then she waited until the postman came & she called him for help.

I saw dad just a little while ago and also talked to the nursing supervisor. They found him in the middle of the night. So that says they check on the patients/residents in the night time as well. I was also concerned that once they went to sleep the staff did as well. HAHAHA!! I asked them to leave a wheelchair and or a walker near his bed then IF he tried again his chance of falling would be minimal. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Will he be getting a walker or something to help him walk? If he can't get up, you will have to help him during the night etc. That will cause a lot of stress for you, maybe you can get someone to be there at night to help with him so that you can get sleep etc.
