Hi I'm a locksmith and it seems that the industry is going under with the onslaught of transponder key systems standard in new cars. Dealers won't release codes.

You just have to improvise, learn new trade or reinvent your skill to catch up with new key system in today world. It is inadequate to remain in antiquated technology knowledge mode anymore in today technology driven commercial industry, car makers and dealers are interested in branching into every sector of the industry to expand their revenue base, it include traditional locksmith trade too in order to become bigger and richer for themselves and their shareholders. Any car owner has problem with the new locking system nowadays, he /she need to go thro' the dealer for repair, it produce an extra revenue avenue for the dealer and car maker.

I knew it is such a hard time for many locksmith under such economic environment, but you should know, it is the economy. We have to come up some great idea to counter against it. We just have to be creative, and be competitive with this economy, and other competitors.

hello doitbig,I to am a locksmith, like you,as it is so exspensive to buy the transponder kit, there are decoders on the market for a number of the keys, like you though,I can't afford them iether.but in my city, there are quite a few locksmiths that do,so I send my customers to them, not the dealers.
good luck my friend,it is a great trade.
