Experimenting With Your Work

Are you the kind of person who just uses the cotton threads, or do you experiment? I use beads of different sizes, different types of threads, use different stitches and modify patterns for the purpose of creating the same picture in different styles. How about you? What things do you do to improve on your skills or enhance your work?

You can call me nz if you like! lol. I am hoping to sell my work one day, but with 4 little ones, I am pressed for time to get them finished and make something out of them. My mum is having 2 framed for me and they will be going up on my walls. I don't have any of my own work on display at the moment! lol. Mostly, I make them and give them to people as gifts.

You are so creative darling!! and the fact that amuses me more is that in spite of being a full time mom with the 3 kids to take care of, you still just don't see cotton thread as a mere thread!! That's what I call passion about life. So, parenting is not just about parenting, it's a book in the writing and cotton thread are not just threads, it's an art in the making.
I am not that creative and a happy-go-lucky kind who dreams of everything, pursues a few and aborts without touching the finishing line and regrets lifelong. No wonder I am a loser. lol..
have a great day.
PS: C'mon sweet heart I am not that bad either!!

I got 3 that are almost done. 1 needs some more thread and i haven't gotten to the craft shop in a while, the other 2 just need backstitching done on them.

I have not done much crossstiching, I helped someone with it, or rather she was showing me how to do it, but we used the regular type of thread and I have never heard of anyone doing anything different. Most of the time the threads were included in the patterns and no one thought of making up their own.

These days there are lots of types of thread. There are metallics, rayon, multi couloured! lol. I use kits and keep the patterns for later use so that I can do my experimenting! lol. there is a Tigger one that I have done 3 times, each a different way. I'm going to do it 3 more ways and either make a series of wall hangings or a quilt out of them. Just gotta get my sewing machine out of storage! lol. and find the room to set it up!

I've been stitching for years. I usually change colors to different shades specially when I got a pattern where I don't like the color. Sometimes I mix and match some patterns to create a different one. I have used beads to specially when theres a part in a pattern I want enhanced. I have created some small patterns too to fit in small things i'm trying to make. Since I usually give my works as gift on occassions. I have made small pouches. I have made a bag for my own use to. To which the design I stitch was a mix and match from the different patterns I have.

I've recently got some software to help me to alter patterns, but that just adds to the fun. I've asked my partner to get me a sewing machine for my birthday so I can start actually using my stitched creations and give them out as gifts.
I think a personally made gift is the best, more personal, and can save heaps on money too and be totally personalised to the recipients personality.

I love to change patterns... that makes it more 'mine'! One of my favorite things is to use filet crochet patterns and work them on Aida with only one color of floss! These make perfect table centerpieces with more crochet around them! They are also nice for borders on towels, and I did many of them for wedding ring pillows! Its the best project for me when I'm traveling or just having hand or back problems, because its so simple!

If I could get him away from his computer for long enough, then I'd try it! lol. He's too busy earning money for me to go and spend at the craft shop though!

You are so creative. I couldn't crochet to save my life, but at least i can spell it! lol.
I like taking little patterns and mixing them together. Ok, they don't always look that good, but I tried! I have some repeated patterns I am hoping to make into a quilt or series of cushions. Just need a sewing machine and lessons! lol.
My husband used to crochet. I'll have to get him started again and see if we can combine them.
I too stitch when I'm tired of sitting at the computer and there are 2 nights a week when I forget the computer in favour of the couch and my fave show! lol. Lots of stitching gets done on those nights.
