Destination Weddings - Gift or no Gift?

I'm just wondering everyone's opinion on something. If a couple is getting married abroad in a destination ceremony, should they still request gifts from their guests or should they just accept that the people spent money in order to get to their ceremony and that is gift enough? What about from people who could not attend? Should they request gifts from them?

No I wouldn't expect a gift from anyone if they had to travel to my wedding I was having overseas somewhere like Hawaii or Fiji. Just being there is enough for me. For those who could not attend should not send gifts either unless they want to. It's totally up to them and i wouldn't request for gifts either.

I would never request a gift. Each country has it's own customs, but here we never ask for gifts, gifts are given by those who attend the wedding only if they want to. Obviously, rpactically everyone who attends to a wedding gives u a present, but not with previous request.

No one EVER under ANY circumstances "requests" a gift. Getting married doesn't make you entitled to deserve things from people. That's why it's called a "gift". You can still register for gifts, no matter where you're getting married, but never ever expect them.
