Have your system crash on you at a time when your rent is due within the following week and you don't have the cash to replace your system with anything that is even remotely close to acceptability. Your blood will sing them boy! But if you are the adventurous type and you have few or no alternatives, the one alternative that will probably work is for you to cobble together a new computer systemfromall of the old parts and old systems that you have hanging around somewhere in your home. Never ever when you decommission a computer, if you can't or don't sell it, never throw an old system away. It is non disposable anyway, but the reason I say this is that even if the memory or processor speeds are not up to your needs, all of the other components that make up that system may be useful in the future. Or you can plug in your old system as a backup if you keep it around. Recycling computers and parts can really save you money. Especially when you haven't really got much of that to speak of!
