******************************************************************************* ANIME distributor Odex's website was defaced by an unknown hacker on Wednesday night, and is now down. After breaking into the site, the perpetrator put up a note urging a boycott of the anime distributor's products, suggesting ways to continue downloading anime without getting found out. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest+News/Tech+%2526+Science/STIStory_179360.html ******************************************************************************* Hmm... I guess Odex has stepped on one too many toes. Enough to infuriate one of them to actually take the effort to hack their website. Sigh~~~ I am feeling some joy to this as Odex has been antagonized for the sheer amount of anguish they have caused to fellow netizens. On the other hand, I also feel sad, both for Odex and for the user who took the trouble to hack the site. First of all, to Odex, they are taking this move due to the loss in revenue. But the drastic steps they took seems to be too heavy handed. One question to them though, since they sent out the letters to the users who they managed to get the names from, and fined them for their downloading activities, how much revenue has Odex recovered from sales of their Anime series? Has the sales of Odex Anime Series gone up since? Then to the hacker, there are so many ways to protest Odex's actions, why resort to illegal means (like hacking their site) to show your displeasure? Now there is a police case reported against you, who ever you are. It would be a smear on your record for such an act. Is it worth it?
