Pets and Kissing...

I just started wondering about something last night/this morning and I wanted to get some more opinions regarding it. Okay, I love to kiss the tops of my cats and dogs heads. I do it all the time. I was wondering, do you think they understand that is a sign of affection, or do you think they see it as another weird thing humans do that they have to put up with? lol.

i think pets understand those small gestures of affection. that's why dogs love to be patted on the head! i think somehow they can feel the love and affection attached to those kisses and hugs and pats. ^__^

I could not tell you one way or the other. I think that humans more or less do a lot of those things for themselves. But, they do enjoy the touch of their humans. I had a dog once that loved for me to pet him so much, that when I stopped, he would push my hand with his nose to get me to continue. As soon as I would start again, he would settle down. It was the cutest thing.

lol my dog does that too. She lays her head on our lap when we're sitting, and if we don't acknowledge her then, she'll push our leg or hand/arm with her nose. =P

I think they understand it, i think they know that is a sign of affection, our love for them. My cats usually close their eyes whenever i do that, my dog allow me to kiss her. You know if they don't want what you are doing, they will not let you touch their head or face anyway. I am always like that, i am very sweet and loving to my pets. I even talked to them of what happened to their day even i don't have any sure response. I love my pets as i love my family.

My opinion, they understand. I have a cat and a dog. Both enjoy being touched. The dog nudges us with her nose, so we will pet her, rub her belly, whatever. and our cat has 2 habits. 1 she will wait for my husband to stand up, set herself between his legs and mew until he picks her up like and infant. Then he walks around the house with her like that. The other thing she does is jump in your lap and stroke her head on your chin until you pet her. Oh yeah, they understand alright. And sometines demand affection. lol

I think they do. I think they pick up on a lot more than what we believe. They know a kind, gentle voice means good things whereas a yelling or a stern voice means they screwed up. Kissing is the same as a head pat or a scratch. it's something good to them. It makes me feel good to love on my cats and dogs and horses so I hope it makes thme feel good too. And yes, I kiss my horses' foreheads.

I agree with you about everything u've said. Animals are really smart when it comes to understanding people. And I love to give my pets kisses too, so I like to think they know if is affectionate. You have horses! Lucky. I would always kss the foreheads of horses I ride, but I've never owned one X.X I'd like too though =)
