"School Crossing" sign on the weekend and after hours, do you honor it. There have been times when I have been in the school cross walk and people will not stop at all. I have to wait for them to pass, instead of the other way around. Now, I know that I hardly qualify as a kid, but to me, a cross walk is a cross walk and if I am in it, the cars need to stop. What are your feelings on this?

This doesn't apply for just school crosswalks, people should slow down around any crosswalk, regardless of the time. People have a bad habit of just running out into traffic assuming people will stop for them. Not every one will and in some places pedestrians do not have the right of wauy.

I totally agree with you there Rozie. I often have to wait for a car to go past before I start to cross. I even have to force them to stop by stepping out on the cross walk (ahead of time) and then they are forced to stop. I actually give them the evils and shake my head LMAO

I know what you mean, M.M. Sometimes they act like they don't see us or the sign. I have had to step out to be seen more than once. It is a shame that people ar in too much of a hurry to follow the laws and be considerate. I always do a nod of my head in thanks to the car/cars that finally stop to let me go.

Personally, I would think the cars need to slow down. But obviously, not everyone thinks the same way. My point is if you do it everytime (during and after school hours), it automatically becomes a habit. No chance of an accident taking place.

In Canada, all crosswalks are the same, pedestrians have the right of way, school and playgrounds have lower speed limits during certain hoursand are strictly enforced. but regarless of the laws, many people driving today are in to big a hurry to be bothered about you,so while you have the "right of way" the vehicle has many tons of weight,do you think you will win by just stepping off the curb? everyone must take care.

I am a big chicken. I do not take chances like that and assume the cars will stop for me. But, they need to slow down and respect the traffic laws.

I stop. Several zones have blinking yellow lights on the road when the crossing guard is herding the kids across. I have seen a car go speeding by as if they didn't see it, but no kids were hurt. It annoyed me, because how more obvious do they have to be?

the main problem with drivers today is the cell phone and other distactions, they think they can talk on the phone or to passangers,or eat lunch, and they can still pay attention to the road, they can't,and that is what causes most traffic deaths.

When a person is talking on the phone or other wise occupied, this is called carelessness and it is very annoying.

here in Australia, it is the cars that have to give way at any pedestrian crossing. That is, lights, zebra crossing or other designated crossings. The only time they have to obey the school ones is during the times of day when the flags are up saying school crossing. most people slow down though, as most of our schools are close to public recreation fields.

it is the same in Canada,at least in the west, but some, and I repeat some pedestrians think this gives them the right to just step out in front of oncoming traffic and expect the driver to stop on a dime, not going to happen, and even a good sized 300 pound person will loose a fight with a two or three ton vehicle. so it is up to everyone,to respect the rules and use common scents.

I think that the rules should still apply myself. Although I haven't drove now in over 5 years. I still get scared at the way some people drive. Esspically the ones that pull out in front of others. I have gotten into two car wreaks that way from people not watching just pulling out. I would push my brakes as hard as I could but it happened.

Hi Rozie! That happened to me too and it is annoying. However when we are driving and we see someone crossing, we slow down and stop and let him/her pass. I think that is the law, is it not? Take care and have a nice day. :)
