Sodium that is present in salt when consumed more, makes more water to be retained in the body which in turn makes you feel and look more bloated. Exact sodium requirement is normal person 500mg, age 11 and above 600mg and age 3 and below 200mg. Without knowledge, a person consumes 4000mg of salt daily. Some tips to reduce salt intake are Remove the salt tin on the dining table. Avoid any kind of processed foods. Try substitutes like lime juice and pepper sprinkled on the dish. Take only home made accompaniments instead of readymade ones. Try not to add salt while cooking or before eating and instead sprinkle little of it on the dish. Marinate meat and fish for at least one hour which gives them flavor and helps in avoiding to add salt. Be cautious while eating out by ordering for the dishes with less salt. Drink plenty of water to reduce retention of water which helps in preventing the retention of sodium. Excercise regularly which results in sweating, a way to get rid of excess sodium.

I have no problem with eating less salt or sodium. I have a salt intolerance. If I eat to much salt it will start to itch a lot :P So I never put salt in mjy food, I don't eat too much chips or salty food :P

Hi & Hello, my good friend - Thanks for providing good health tips. As excessive intake of salt will lead to high blood pressure. But insufficient of it will easily get muscle cramp due to body or muscle fatique. So the best is at moderate intake and I agree with your statement about salt intake. Thanks for the tips. My father has hypertension and is also trying his best to cut down his salt intake. High intake of salt can also lead to hypertension. I personally do not enjoy food that is too salty. I will take note not to take too much salt. Thanks for the information. =D
