Earlier this summer, ICE agents arrested and deported Elvira Arrellano back to her native Mexico. You might remember her as the illegal alien who, after having been deported once before, returned to the US only to be caught again and ordered to leave the country. Prior to the date she was required to leave, she holed up in a church in Chicago and started a movement to try to have her deportation order overturned. Complicating the issue was that she was a single parent of a child born in the US. Anyhow, due to all the press her case received, she obtained a sort of celebrity status as a folk hero and wannabe Mexican Rosa Parks. Her aim was to change US immigration policies. Still trying to stretch her 15 minutes of fae, she recently went on a hunger strike in Mexico to attempt to get the US to change their immigration policies. Am I just a cold hearted jerk or do you agree with me that she should use her celebrity status not to change laws of a land foreign to her but rather to change governmental policies in Mexico that cause hundreds of thousands of Mexicans to flee their country annually for a chance to make a decent living? Should she be yelling towards Washington or protesting Mexico City? What are your thoughts?
