What make it a different one from others? It is an optical disk format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Optical Disk Association(BDA).Its members are Dell,HP,Hitachi,LG,Matsushita,Mitsubishi,Pioneer,Philips,Samsung,Sharp,Sony,TDK & Thomson. The dual layer versions of the disk can hold 50GB. It uses a hard coating technology called Derbies. Both HD DVDs Blu-ray can hold ultra high quality movies. But they lack backward compatibility with current DVDs
