Exercising : With equipment or without

I was thinking about all the exercise equipment out there and was also why in the world do people pay so much for these things when you can do the same without them.. For example the tread mill..can you not just run in place..without being on some moving thing. The lifting of weights..can you not raise your arms up and down...many times and tighten your muscles. Do you think the machinery is creating undue dependency. I know I have been doing some exercise lately but not with machines..running in place..and doing the movements people use with machines..I feel a difference.. Why empty your pockets??

I totally agree with you. I always tell my husband if he wants to do exercises, then go to do some housework. I am sure it will work for him to lose weight:) Since nowadays I seldom go out to play badminton and it is winter now and therefore I can go to swim. But I still have my own exercises. I go to work on foot. Isn't it a free but healthy way?:)

How far is it to work..that is how long does it take you to walk to work..my apartment really is set up for leg work ..to go to the living room I go down five step which is the further room in the house..it is the full width of apartment/house..then to get to Kitchen it's 5 steps up...All the other spaces are on the upper level..The bedroom..which I hardly sleep in during the winter since its sooooo colllld.. and the bathroom..which kinda remins of the old fashion outhouses with all the room it has. So during the winter I will get a work out..to get to the outside I have to go up the 5 steps from my living room through the kitchen down about 13 steps..When I am waiting for the mail..I must run that course about 4 times in a day..since I dont want my mail to be opened by the kids that have nothing better to do:( I have however started the jogging in place..perhaps at first it was to try to warm up..lol..but now I am noticing I am feeling better overall..so I am making up my own routine;)

I spend about half an hour going to work on foot. So I think the time is suitable. It won't make me tired anyway:)

I go for 30 minutes brisk walking and only thing is requires is a pair of jogging shoes. In the evening, the park is full of children and old people and hence I cannot go round the lake. Therefore at home, I have a static cycling, I do cycling for 20 minutes. This I think is sufficient for me, because it tires me and I get a good night sleep.

Since it is a stationery bike, you can always fix a flat screen to it, but I suggest not. Because anything you do without concentration, it will not yield the desired result. Here both mind and body should be concentrated when you are doing the exercises, then only the resal fruits of your labour can be realised. Thanks and have a nice time.

I do believe in the stationary bike..especially since I have no time during daylight hours to ride around town..They havent invented a bike that has a computer screen attached..LOL

I agree with you. I mostly love working out outdoors. I love running so much, such a huge stress reliever. As for weight training I do that as well. I don't go to the gym, I don't like paying the monthly fees. I just bought a couple of dumbells, but that's the most i've put into exercise equipment.

well if u really want to know the difference, u will have to use these machines too. the treadmill can be used to do a lot of excercise in a small amount of time. if u run for half an hour and travel some kilometres your speed is slow and the ground will be softer. in the treadmill u can control the speed and increase it. u don't travel much so do not change any direction and the tilt in the treadmill surface can be also maintained. the moments of hand are not the only excercise in lifting of the weights, it is the weight that makes it an excercise. the force required to lift the weight against the force of gravity gives the stiffness and strength to the muscles and circulate blood better.

Sure..it may be quicker..and more convenient..but tell me..do you doubt a person not using machines can become just as fit as someone who does not?

i support you.we can prctise our body in the open air without such machinery.sometimes,we may think we have too much time to go out,and want to stay at home and exercise, and will buy some equitments such as for runing, building up muscle, and so on.but sometimes,we are only taken in by some commercial or some businessmen.and we will trust what commercial says easily, for example, you can practise you arm or your abdomen with a certain machine.coz many people, especially youth, want themselves to look more style, they would not care about their money, thay will say:it is an investment to thire body.lol,i think that is big laugh, for they cannot leave such machinery.

Oh I agree..There was time before all these inventions..and I am sure people kept fit..now someone came up with the idea of telling people they need these machines..they become dependent on them at all cost..

with or without equipment is not important,if you really want to do exercise is the most important.

Hi littlefranciscan! To some people it is neccessary for themn to have all those machines to assist them in exercising. I have bought a treadmill before and some small equipments to help me exercise at home, but i just used them for a few times and all have collected dusts. So, I just gave them away before the dust kills my husband. LOL! I guess, what is important whether we have machines or not is to have the discipline and perseverance in exercising. And I get what you mean of not having all those machines because my husband exercises without any gadgets and he is staying fit and trim which is why he is telling me all the time that i just wasted money before on those machines. Take care and have a nice day. :)
