Achilles Tendon Strains??

Has anyones dog ever strained a muscle or the Achilles Tendon? My dog went to the Vet Yesterday becuase her hind leg is lame for the last couple of days. She had x-rays and nothing is torn or broken but the ankle and tendon are severely swollen. She was given anti-inflamatories and if it doesn't heal in a fews weeks possible surgery. Has anyone's dog gone through this and how long did it take to heal?
