Well the wife & I took my tub of pennies to the bank this morning. We are using these funds for some of our casino gambling money. The tub was just under half full of only pennies. The total came to $49.25. So we each have an extra $25 for the slots etc. Do you save pennies for a rainy day? What is the largest amount you've cashed in? This is a photo of the tub we use. It's got one penny in it already. HAHAHA. The last time we cashed it in for the casino we got just under $90 and it was about 7/8ths full. So all told this holds maybe $100 of pennies. It is from cat food actually. I've used this for quite a long time now as a penny bank. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

So is that a gallon pail? Yeah, I save pennies. It is something I have been doing for years. I have never cashed more than a couple of bucks in at a time. I have probably ten, fifteen dollars worth of pennies in various jars around my office. I really should cash them in all at once. It would be a nice addition to my savings account.

It is a pial from 8 lb cat food if I recall correctly. My wife is a waitress and that's where a majority of the pennies came from. We buy stuff at the store we save the pennies as well. Seldom do we give pennies for purchses as we love saving them. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

This was in today's paper. I was amazed that the guy saved that much change. INDIANA Spare change used to buy truck FRANKFORT -- Paul Brant considers himself a penny pincher, but his savings in quarters and dollar coins really paid off. Brant, 70, used more than $25,000 in change to help buy a new Dodge Ram half-ton pickup truck Friday -- 13 years after buying another truck with spare change. "(The old truck) didn't have four-wheel drive, and living in the country, I figured I better get a new one to help get me through the snow," he said. Brant said he was raised to be thrifty. His father always paid in cash and saved up loose change to take vacations. Brant has been storing his change for years, and estimated he had about $26,000 in coins for Friday's purchase. In 1994, he bought a Dodge pickup and a Dodge Neon using about $36,000 in quarters. ~ Associated Press

A couple of years ago my husband and I cashed in all his wrapped change, it valued around $400. Was a huge mix of coins, very heavy too. Glad I didn't have to cary it myself, there was just too much of it.

Lol, we have no choice here otherwise the bank won't take it. We probably would have bankrupted the grocery store by using their change machine.

I save all of my change in a gallon milk jug. Pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters along with an occassional dollar bill...the quarters and paper money usually get taken out again at some point but the rest stay in. I've been doing this since the weekend after Labor Day and it's about 1/3 full. I have to share the story of why I chose the milk jug...The weekend after Labor Day our truck got wrecked, it was totalled, all 3 of the boys' carseats were ruined, the pizza got glass in it, and the gallon of milk fell out and bounced on the road into the ditch....BUT it didn't break or leak. The plastic milk jug was the only thing that survived the crash (besides the guy driving the truck of course!), I couldn't very well through it away! So I kept it for my new piggy bank.

We save all of our change through the year and then turn it in at the bank and use the money for Christmas presents. We have two jars one for silver and one for pennies, but when we bring it to the bank we put everything in one big box. This year we had 425.00. Good luck at the casino, come back a big winner.

I have never been able to save any amount of change. I had built up about fifty cents worth of pennies, and my daughter comes asking me for some money. So I gave them to her. Maybe one day I will be able to save some change up to the amount that you have. The reason I gave her the pennies, is because I rather give her that and have to count them. LOL

I made the mistake of giving my oldest grandson a dollar bill for maybe 10 pennies one day. Now he visits and has pennies and asks me for dollar bills. HAHAHAHA! I do give both grandsons the dollar coins my wife gets as tips ever so often. Most banks have the coin counting machines. And they are free for customers of the bank. Otherwise some banks charge 8% to 10% for transactions of coin exchanges. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That's a great way of saving for extra gambling money... well done! I save pennies... we have 1p and 2p coins, then I bag them up and distribute them between my five grandchildren by depositing them in the bank accounts I opened for each of them. Brightest Blessings... hope you win big with your penny funds!

Yes... a good idea too. It saved your other money. I hope you won something with them, but if not, that you had a very enjoyable time. Brightest Blessings my friend.

I have a glass jug at work that I put pennies in, but I have yet to cash in that stash, the jug is only about 1/3 full. I think when it is full, it will hold about$30-$40 (just a guess, though). We also have a few bowls at home that we put our loose change in. When they start to get full, my BF wraps the coins and exchanges them at the bank for paper money. Usually, it is only $20 or so worth of change.

I've been saving pennies for years. I have some mason jars filled with pennies lined up on shelves in my basement. Once I counted how many pennies I had in a jar, and it was just over $30 dollars. I don't have any plans for the pennies right now, I just like to save them. I have thought about taking some to the casino to use in the penny machines, and I might do that some time.

I just went down to see how many jars of pennies I had, and there are only 4, but one is an old Welch's grape juice jar that's at least 2 quarts. That doesn't seem like many pennies for as long as I've been saving them. They did have penny machines in Vegas, so if I ever go there again, maybe I'll take the pennies. There was one game there called Tobasco or something like that. The game was to match hot sauces. It was fun, and I kept winning on it, like I'd bet 1 cent, and I'd win a hundred.

that's impressive. that means that you had 4925 pennies? almost five thousand - it must be super heavy. Over here, the equivalent is the 5 cent coin, which no one really uses and some firms refuse to accept even though it is legal tender. i have a friend who used to save dollar coins and said that was for her fund to buy a car. at the rate car prices are going in my country, i think it would be many many more years before she saves enough. :)

We have a coffee can that we use for pennies. I have saved them for quite a while now. Doubtful that we will get rich when and if we cash them in. I do save other change and we are now planning to keep it for vacation next summer.

We save almost all our change. Pennies, nickels, and dimes go into one container (we use the cups that you can get at a casino) and quarters go into another one. We seperate the quarters from the rest of the change to use for laundry money. The last time we cashed in our pennies, nickels, and dimes container, I believe we had about $100. It was awesome! Lol :)

My husband rolled a bunch of change some time ago that we've not cashed in yet (theres close to $80) and I've not rolled all my change jars though....I think come spring we should roll up and cash in the rest of it :-D

I sure do have a place to save my pennies! I save all my dollars and when they reach $100, I take them to the bank! I also save any silver coins I have in an empty Whisky container, and have reached $80 in there! You don't miss putting all these coins away, and get a lovely surprise when you count it all - it has come in very useful at times.

Well good for you, now use the penny money for seed and watch it grow at the casino. I have a lot of pennies that have been saved over the years, why? good question. We don't go gambling. Interesting enough though I thought I'd share this little tid bit with you. My hubby has a cell phone and the case it's in closes by means of a magnet flob if you get what I'm trying to say. Anyway his cell phone was on the coffee table and he was getting ready for bed and happened to have some change in his pocket and he carelessly threw down the change. He said to me, "Well look at this." I looked to see what he was telling me and it turns out two of his pennies stuck to the magnet which would indicate they were not copper or they wouldn't do that. Of course I had to try all my pennies and yes they did stick, so I went to one of my old penny jars and not one of those pennies stuck to the magnet. Well...Now do I want to spend my pennies or not? They probably won't be worth anything much in my life time but I have two grandchildren that may want them when they grow up. Just thought I'd share that. Thanks, Merry Christmas folks.
