This past weekend at my job, my boss surprised me with a Christmas bonus. He asked me if I'd heard my co workers talking about the bonus. I said no, but my kitchen aid told me about it. You have to be here for 6 months before you can get a bonus or a weeks vacation. I missed the 6 months by 2 weeks.
My boss decided to give me a bonus out of his pocket!!
He gave me $25.00. I thought that was really sweet of him. He told me what a great job I'm doing and how much the residants like me, and how
I'm always there to help my co workers out. I never say no to overtime. I have 3 postions I perform at my job, cook, overnight aid and housekeeping. So my plate is pretty full.
Next year the bonus will be a 1/4 of the hours for the hours for the year.
So anyway I'm actually going to spend this money on me for a change.
Has anyone else ever got this kind of surprise bonus or something simalar?

Wow unexpected bonus how great. I am glad for you.
At the place I use to work they gave out bonuses to all the full-time employees. It sure left the per-dium employees mad.
Other than that I have never gotten any kind of christmas bonus, no christmas ham or anything like that.

That's really great news to hear and the fact that your boss decided to "bend" the rules a bit..thought I guess he figured by missing the 6 month requirement by only two weeks was nothing major.
Hehe..what did you get for yourself with the money?

I have not gone shopping yet. Now I'm busy working overtime lol. This week and next week. I'm not sure yet what I want to buy. I might just go to wal-mart and look around and then decide. My boss bent the rules again today for me. On my Christmas list I asked for a coffee pot for work. The staff bedroom. At first he was iffy about it, but I explainedto him about the lukewarm water for my instant coffee, and the creamora floating in the coffee. He pointed to our coffee pot in the kitchen. I had to explain how I have to shower and get ready before I come out of the room, and I can't come out in my jammies as we have a lurk about, and he walks around the building at all hours. He even folds my towels from the laundry and brings them to the kitchen like 5;30 or 6 am in the morning. So he understood and said I could use my pot. I also pointed out to him that I wasn't one of our residents.

That was very nice of him to remember you. Like you said, buy something for yourself, you deserve it.

Yes I'm going to buy something for myself. Seems like everytime I get extra money I put it into bills. I have this funny thing about being at least 3 months ahead on all my bills lol.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!!

Wow, that's great! I know every little bit helps with gas prices and prices for food.
My DH got one weeks' pay for his Christmas bonus. He was expecting a check for $100 but when he opened it up, it was for a weeks' salary.
Where I used to work, we got $350 cash every Christmas. We were also closed for a whole week for Christmas, so that money helped out a lot the first year I was there and I didn't have vacation time yet. I was off one whole week without pay. That 2nd year I was there and every year after that, I saved one week of vacation time for that week we were off.

A weeks salary is awesome! Thats cool that you got $350. You were able to cover yourself. My brother drives school bus, and it hurts when they have time off. And saving the vacation time is really a good idea!
