hi i am just venting a little bit here.years ago when giving gifts it used to be batteries not included with all the toys.nowadays it is memory cards not included with everything.i know its my fault for not reading each box that contained my presemts to the kids, but when i gave them ,each gift needed a memory card.my daughters camera, her digital frame,my son's psp game.i think the price you pay for these items, they should be included.i ended up paying an extra $100.00 on memory cards.what do you think, should they be included

Well, I know what you mean, but you see the memory cards are not necessarily required for each of those things to work. The camera, digital frame, psp game.. they all work without the memory card. So they are not required or included. I agree with you that it would be nice if they did, and I know how much more we have to end up paying for those extras, but that's what they are: extras. Extras because the amount of space we need to save the things we want is greater than what come with each item. But if we think about it... let's think about camera. We used to have manual cameras. And had to buy film for them. Each time we used the film, we needed to buy more. And the maximum pictures we could take with that film was usually 36, with most of them with 24 pictures only. WIthout a memory card, most cameras can take and store a different number of pictures depending on the resulotion. Most cameras came with a standard memory of 16 or 32M which will be able to store about 100 pictures at least at low resolution and maybe about 20 at higher. Seems fair enough. The thing is that we always feel safer having more storage space and the memory card helps there, but as I said, it's not required for the camera to work and store pictures. the same with the frame.I'm not really sure, but I've seen some that come with 8MB , that would be enough to store and display a bigger number of pictures at low resolution and then of course less at higher resolution. It can still work without the memory card, just it will be storing and displaying less pictures that's all. So, again the memory card is an extra. As for the games, I'm not sure about the psp.But I am sure I am not mistaken by saying that the games can still be played without the memory card. Of course the saving options will be more limited and people prefer to be able to save more. One more time, the memory card is not needed for the item to work, helpful and important even in some cases, but not indispensable. That's the way things are. If we want something else we have to purchase it separately, that goes with memory cards as well :) That's why the big companies get bigger and the consumer's pockets get empty:)

Yes, that's what my kids tell me too. I know that they can save their games but in a limited way and the memory card is the "life saver" specially because they want to save and save LOL I am a bad example myself. I used to hate being able to only take 36 pictures before digital cameras. Now I'm in Heaven and my memory card really helps :) Of course I could come home, get those pictures in the computer and then take some more, but I'm awful with that part,I always forget, so if I didn't have the memory card I would be very unhappy hehehehe

well said.yes i know that we could have probably gotten away without them initially, but with the psp game if my son reached a certain level on one game and wanted to go to a new game,he would need his memeory card to save that level he was up to,before he went onto a new game.anyway i am definately new to all this and i am going by what the kids have told me.i am the money bank lolthanks for your response cheers sue

Oh absolutely.. I remember my daughter needed a memory card for her game cube and then also needed some more extra stuff for the game if she wanted to advance.. As much as I like playing these games, I really hate the fact that not only do you have to buy extra things, (which aren't cheap), but in just a short amount of time, it becomes obsolete. They suddenly need the next version which means another investment, (that's what it feels like to me), and nothing is compatible....

i know you have to buy all sorts of extras.with the psp,it was bundled up with the simpson game,so i would have asumed it had everything,it did not even have a set of earphones or a strap to carry it.now i found out that they scratch very easy and you really need to buy them a skin,so it is endless.thanks cheers sue

oh yes...i do agree. My daughter got a nice digital camera. How disappointing to realize we had to go get a memory card in order for her to try it out! The cost of these things, you'd think that the memory card would be included....and we still had to buy batteries as well!

Everything needed for an item to function should be included initially but, of course, companies make more money if they seperate the package items; after all, it's all about their bottom line, or their overall profit margin. The consumer is a pawn in the marketing game; when we put our foots down and stop buying what they feed us, they regroup and adjust their plans to accommodate what the market "will" bear. We rule, but they lead us into believing that they do.

i think so too...try writing the companies...at the very least they may send you a coupon...if you have time for that anyways ;) this is why i try not to get those kind of gifts...santa did not bring anything that needed batteries or accessories to our house this year :)

Yes, you would think!!!!! But that is just another way to make more money! I'm glad the memory cards have come down in price a bit! They sometimes include batteries for remotes to TV's. That's the only thing that I can think of that they include the batteries with, might be more! I think they should include the memory cards, even if it is the smallest memory card. Then if you want more memory have the option to upgrade!

yes i agree it is just another way to make money.if it was as you say a small memory card included,at least you can use your gift until you can decide if you need more.thanks for responding.cheers sue

Good grief. I think that is outrageous. To be honest I would have thought that everything would be included in the box too considering how much these things cost. I mean batteries cost a fortune and it really irks me to know that I will have to spend almost as much as the gift to put the batteries in. And the quantity is always so well hidden that I have often been shocked to find that some items take 4 or even 6 batteries so the extra expense is shockong. I think that for such expensive digital items as cameras and especially game consoles the memory card should be included. I am sure they charge way to much for them because they know how much you need them.

i agree these memory cards should be included.the psp cost hundreds and it is the size of a wallet.these basic things like memory cards and earphones should be in the box.i never play them so i did not know you even needed them.the camera definately should have a memory card as it only stores about 20 photos and without the card it is pretty useless.at least my daughter can use the same card for her digital frame.cheer sue
