Hi, there BFF and virtual drinking buddy! I remember my Grandma making soup out of the ham bone (we always got Chinese ham for Christmas when I was little--the best I've ever tasted!) and she would boil the bone in water with a big onion, quartered. If there is leftover ham, she'd slice it in thin strips and add to the soup. She added carrots too. Then when the soup boils she adds a couple handfuls of shell pasta, and turns down the heat until the shells are soft. Then she adds shredded cabbage (about two cups), and simmers the lot until the cabbage turns soft. You add your own salt and pepper (the Chinese ham is salty) and I always add some cream or milk to my piping hot soup. Sometimes I will add butter too. YUMMY!!!
